It's very ridged. Even as the full 4'x8' sheet I couldn't get more than a few MM of deflection.

The intercooler has been there since day 0, I love it. I think the best thing ever was when we were tuning the car and my buddy asked, "Are you sure this has a Subaru engine in it? Your ECT and IATs are way too low seeing as how we just made a 24 pound pull!"

We actually had to stop shutting the car off as it was getting too cold between pulls!

Any local sign shop should be able to get it. Plan on $100-$120 depending.

Deleted my dipstick after the failure, needed a vent. Got clever with some leftover intake manifold bits. Free.99!

What failed? And why do you feel the diff housing needs a vent?

His dipstick broke and dropped into the trans. He deleted the dipstick and plugged the dipstick port with an NPT fitting. The dipstick is a combo dipstick/vent so with that plugged he needed to vent it somewhere. He posted pics on FB.

re. the pigtail vent hose; Long ago I tried that on a Hewland Mk9. It filled with oil, which created enough restriction to cause the seals to leak. A different animal, but worth considering. As I recall I just pointed the tube rearward (270deg curl vs 360) so it couldn't fill and was leak free (at least from the gearbox!).

    Good to know!

Was there fluid in that part of the box I'm assuming? There's really nothing going on in the back of our box so I'm hoping it's a non issue.

Last night was fairly productive - http://imgur.com/a/WaDhj

First start up this morning, she idles perfect, few more bits to bolt back on then back to the dyno for tuning.

Also, for anyone wanting to keep their turbo bolted down forever - https://www.full-race.com/store/turb...ware-kit.html/

    Amazing kit.

Wow! Nice numbers! Can't wait to see video of it on track. I also have the full-race stud kit for my turbo, no testing yet but I hear good things.

Going back a few days in the thread... The dipstick is definitely the vent for the gearbox. The subarugears guys do a reverse crown and pinion kit for rear engine vehicles (porsche and VWs with subie trannies). When you reverse the crown, you have to block the dipstick otherwise you'll get oil flying all over the place. To replace the vent through the dipstick, they drill a hole closer to the center differential. Check out the following video, from minute 9:00, also the exact location of the new vent is shown in minute 9:40:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yncdDekf0A8

Very cool dyno btw. Hopefully it's reliable.

I confirmed my idea with the SubaruGears guys before I did it. Worked fine yesterday and there was definitely some heat generated.

As for the power, it will rarely be run at this level. I currently only have it set for "The Beans" at the top of 3rd, 4th, and 5th. BBG on the COBB AP is pretty slick!

Bonus from the dyno session, proof that the RMIC works as a heat exchanger even with no airflow (car was on the dyno backwards)

Would you share some of the details of your DIY splitter? I have a 1/2" plywood splitter on my car right now an think with some fiberglass cloth and resin it might be good enough for my non-track (i.e. aesthetic) purposes. Curious how/what you did? If you already covered it, just say and I'll dig back through to find.

    Thanks!

I build better than I document. Short version; 4x8 sheet of Alumalite, used the vestigal FFR splitter as template but extended it to the battery compartment, cut for the 255s, mounted some hangers, had to make a jack point also.

    Here's a bunch of pictures first - http://imgur.com/a/lRLyu

    What thickness was the Alumalite?

How does it compare to the FFR splitter when it comes to weight?

I used 1/4" for this. It's heavier for sure, I have not weighed it.

I can say this, it's proven to be able to hold 191lbs. more than the last one...

Did you look into dibond? Any reason why you choose alumalite over it?

It's what my local sign shop had. Aren't they just different brand names for the exact same product?

The dibond is solid core so they tend to be thinner and also run cheaper.

Interesting. Some quick research shows it being about 5-6lbs heavier in a 3mm thickness and costing about 50% more. It would be pretty slick to do an apples to apples comparison on strength vs. thickness and throw cost into the mix.

The laminated aluminum sheets, which are typically used as durable signage are called a number of things.
Alumilite seems commonly used by racers. Often 2 axis CNC cut to shape. Up to 1/2" thick, I believe.

I'm thinking of building a CNC router to cut out some different versions for testing and destruction.

I think my sister was at an Autocross event you were at--the Farm Complex in Harrisburg. I got a picture text with your car in it and told her to creepily check your license plate. Any chance you're entering the one at Pocono this weekend? I could come check out your car (my first in-person 818) under the guise of "supporting my sister"...

I was at the SUSQ AX - https://youtu.be/ecEVRAduH0E

I won't go that far for an AX, but there is another one this Sunday at the Farm Show again. I might go, need to work on the on power turn in.
