The ECU is in the passenger footwell. That metal plate there is the footrest that covers it. It's probably toast in this car, plus the main harness where it plugs in. Keep that in mind.

hood, fender, bumper, grille, headlight, it's leaking coolant and the radiator support looks pushed back.
have gone through the same thing, had the frame bent back professionally which wasnt terribly pricey and just sourced the replacement fender, bumper and grill and whatnot off the web and installed it back myself, 1stsubaruparts and subaru parts wharehouse and subaru genuine parts all carry oem stuff and are priced about the same, after getting it back from the frame place it took about 3 beers time and had everything back together... best part is i came in way under what the insurance paid me for the damage and was able to sell that fixed one for quite a bit

02 wrx 101k miles has salvage title.

RS trans and diff, VF48 turbo, JDM pinks and a boat load of other goodies. If the body was good, I'd keep it forever, but it's not worth fixing, so it makes a good donor.

    96 Impreza.jpg

My donor makes a rather loud knocking noise when running. It's a '96 Impreza 2.2L, N/A 5-spd. It was in a front end accident. (Timing belt replaced.)

Is this the part I need? Is it available for less (new)? I found rebuilt engines for about $3K and used engines for $600-1200.

    Engine, Short block
    Impreza, 2.2L - 1.8l, 2.0l, 2.2l
    List Price : $1,781.83
    Your Price : $1,646.41

    thanks.

^ are you planning on using a NA EJ22 as your donor? i would not spend your money on a new ej22 short block that's for sure. a decent running ej22 can be picked up for a few hundred.

Thanks, but I've had no luck finding such an inexpensive used engine. Maybe I've been looking in the wrong places.

Going new, I can be reasonably sure it's going to last. But I'd be willing to risk it if I can save $1500.

Well a short block isn't a whole new motor.... and check out www.car-part.com for that engine.... or your local Subaru forums. Heck I've seen 2.2s given away before...

^Good to see another guy in Atlanta. This makes the 3rd Subaru in our driveway. 2003 WRX with 115k that needs a little work. Looking forward to fixing it and driving it for a while until the 818 is released.

03 WRX with lotso STI Parts, +/- 400HP @ the crank, race suspension, etc. I think I'm going to call it my "Bluebaru" It is a ton of fun to drive as is. Can't even imagine the 818 being more fun. But it will be cooler looking

Just picked up an engine out of a 2005 WRX wagon with 88k miles. It has a rod knock but I got the shortblock and heads for $400. It'll be a good learning experience for me to tear it down, find out what's wrong, and build it back up. Then I'll try to find a WRX with a blown motor that I can swap in the rebuilt one. I would say that I'm officially in for the 818 now.
