    Minimum requirements for California Registration

I'm wanting to know the minimum requirements for registering my Kit Car in California. The process is well published and I understand the different catagories. I am needing to know if a working parking brake is required?
Is a charcoal canister is required for fuel vapor recovery?
Obviously seat belts are required but what else might turn into a show stopper?
Does any of our experienced builders have a document or personal knowledge of these requirements?

I walked a friend through the process and all he had was the MSO from FFR.

Parking brake--not that I am aware of (required per the vehicle code)
Charcoal canister---not needed if registered under the SB-100 program
Seat belts--nobody ever asked (required per the vehicle code)

I'm not getting gray, I'm adding chrome....

Like everything in California, it all depends on the DMV clerk and the CHP officer you deal with. I have processed three kits through the process and no one ever looked at or questioned the three items that you mention. In what part of the state are you located? Send me a PM if you would like to discuss this over the phone.

I went through the process with a LeGrand MK4 BSR and I was sent to a break and light station. I guy really didn’t know what to check so he had me pull the E-brake and he pushed on the back of the car. He didn’t notice the E-brake cable was connected to the back of the brake peddle. Not a very detailed inspection.
