Remote brake/clutch reservoir

I bought a remote reservoir kit from Mike Everson and installed it on a 3/4" bar I bolted to the frame. Mike's kit includes the connections to the brake and clutch master cylinders, tubing, and other pieces you need to solve the problem of the master cylinders being hidden by the windshield flange. Mike says to install the reservoir on the windshield flange but then I'd have to drain the reservoir, disconnect hoses and bleed the clutch and brake systems if I ever removed the windshield, like during the installation of the dash or body panels. So, I used a piece of 3/4"square tubing and a 4" x 3" steel sheet to mount the reservoir to the frame. This is higher than the OE reservoirs yet low enough to clear the hood.

I don't see how... The master cylinders are very close below it, so any reservoir (remote or not) need to be above them and intereferes.

I was concerned about this when I made up the kit. I may still make a section of my surround removable right behind the reservior. That way it can be removed with out distrubing the brake fluid. Really though, I see no reson to remove the windshield surround once its installed.

Xusia, I think you could mount Mike's reservoir further forward so you would not have to cut the windshield surround. I was thinking of that but then thought about needing space for the windshield wiper motor. Just mount the reservoir high enough to feed fluid to the masters and still be below the hood - there's several inches from the top of the frame to the hood. I look forward to your solution but don't make it better than mine!

I have mounted both the windshield frame and the hood. I really don't see how you are going to mount wipers. Where will the wheel boxes protrude?

For most of us, wipers are not an option, they're required. The only one that I know of that's done it is Eric, not a lot of details yet though.

Mike, regarding wipers all I know is this photo of Erik Treves' wipers. I've tried to leave space for this but I don't know how much he had to modify the hood. Mysteries are part of the fun for us pioneers, eh?

hey guys I have a junk yard and I found a remote master cyl set up that fits on th 02-05 wrx master cyl 03-04 mitsu outlander going to try it on my 818 when I get it back from powder coat. brian

has anyone cut out an access panel to get at the resevoirs and make an aluminum cover painted black that screws on over the cut out? simply unscrew the cover and top up the fluid. besides the brake fluid doesn't need much attention it only needs attention if there are leaks or a flush which is not very often.

However, if one is tracking the car, pretty much requires flushing out/renewing brake fluid for every track day.

Does anyone see why mounting the remote reservoir on the factory five wiper bracket as in the attached photos won't work?

I used a six inch high standoff from that cross frame piece to support the center of my hood

idf, mounted on the wiper bracket looks good to me. I don't have the wiper kit yet but it's good to know that if my current reservoir location (post #1) is in the way, I can mount it to that bracket.
