It sure is! And the black is 3m Matte Deep Black. Thanks, I’m really happy with the choice!

That's one of the top combo's I'm pondering. Great to see it on an 818, let's see more!
What are your thoughts on the wrap process and results? DIY? Panels on or off?

But I did catch your missing HD springs on your quik-latches! loll
I'll rewatch your vids, maybe I missed that bumpsteer part.

YOUR COLOR IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Much more sleeper than mine but I think it's better to make our 818s more sleeper, otherwise you get people asking you stuff on a red light while you're about to turn left (like it happened to me)!!

Love the MATTE color, love it, Adam!

What matters is that the panels must be well fixed in place so they don't move when you pull/apply the wrap. In some areas you need precision and force, you don't want say the hood to flex or have the tendency to close on you.

It is DIY, I've done it and some others too. Took me about 150h the whole car (on an S, I've got no top). DIY will not be as perfect as from a pro, unless you are a pro already, but people won't notice the defects, they are way too much overwhelmed by the overall of the car.

What I don't like with wrap is a chip, say from a small rock on the hood on highway, is unfixable without leaving a trace unless you re-wrap the entire panel.

Definitely DIY, and I’ve got lots to learn. The trick, which mostly comes from experience (which I don’t have), is knowing when and where to use a seam. Just because you can physically stretch the material and get it wrapped in one piece doesn’t mean you should. I used some scrap to test out how best to do the tricky sections. I couldn’t do the side sail in one piece, so rather than have a blue on blue seam I opted for the black to match the intercooler. The other sides vent doesn’t have the intercooler and is like 6” deep so that would’ve had to been multiple pieces anyway. Plan to use the black on the Front bumper, hood and engine cover vent areas also. Now that I’ve kinda figured out how to do it I should make faster progress. I will make a video about what I learned and how I did each panel, but it won’t really be a “how to” as this is my first time.

The door I did on the car with no side sail, but the side sail was on and off a couple times. You really need to pull hard sometimes and need it mounted, but some parts are easier and more ergonomic to work off the car.

Yeah I didn’t know about the springs until too late, they should probably come with them but they’re already overpriced.

I was pretty set on a dark grey for a long time until I seen your car and started considering blue. I love the matte dark blue(purple?)/black on the red bull F1 cars and decided it was the way to go. Couldn’t be happier with the color. It is however much brighter in the sun, but still not like yours at all.

I bought some of that before I even started, a must have. I asked if they had smaller rolls cause there no way I’ll need 100ft, but now I dunno if I’ll have enough, lol.

I was once a Redbull F1 fan, but followed Vettel to Ferrari. However after years of Ferrari BS, piss poor team principles, often equally poor strategies and performance I find myself missing my Redbull days. Perhaps this is a sign to go back.

I feel your pain with Seb getting only P10 for 1 point! Who woulda thought? The future is absolutely unpredictable.

That color! Makes me want to strip my car and buy a roll (almost... actually I just want to drive the thing). This car is going to be a real looker, can't wait to see more.

Making progress! Unfortunately I wrapped a fender, took it off to better finish the edges and accidentally dropped it wrecking the wrap. Let’s just say it took a few beers to get over and I decided the fender and I needed a few days apart.

NIIIIIIICE!!!! Same color cut as I did!

A few days apart, does this mean more beer during those days?

I scrapped one of the door wrap and if I recall the entire hood as well. Then I decided it was enough scrapping.

Imitation is the greatest form of flattery. I’m thinking I might put a FFR logo in black on the hood, centred up by the windshield. It would be in black on the blue, so subtle. Any thoughts?

When you were idling, there was snow on your driveway and out in the street was a goalie defending a goal. I know winter is long in Edmonton, because I was born there, but it's now July! Do you expect that snow, and maybe the goalie, to thaw before winter comes again?

    BTW, I enjoy your videos.

Haha, that was filmed in March. Snow and goalie are melted now, haha. While I’ve done a lot with the car over the past 4 months I slacked on my editing and I’m now catching up. I’d like to put out a video a week until I’m all caught up.

Yeah... I get it. You post 4 months old vids so by now your car is all wrapped (and re-wrapped cuz you screwed up a few panels) and running, kicking some *****, smoking all Porsches and supped up Corvettes in Edmonton, brought there by the rich NHL players. hahahahahha

However, what Pete said is true but you see what he did, he escaped Edmonton's July winter to establish in AZ where winter is like, well, dry sand, or something.

Adam, you post a vid in July, what we see in that vid happened in July. That's how it works.

This fuel tank and fuel system upgrade was a far larger job then I anticipated. Just another reason to do things right the first time.

No Frank I’m not done and smoking vettes just yet, however I’m getting close. I’ve been enjoying my summer, lots of time with the wife a kids, motorcycle rides, etc. I’ve also been enjoying the RX8, trying my hand at drifting and even did a legit track day with it with an instructor! Felt so at home on track, and the Rx8 was a great platform to get used to the track since it handles so well and has very little power. The 140 treadwear tires also have me lots of confidence, except when the track got wet and my welded diff insisted on making the rear step out on a fast left at the end of a strait! Somehow I managed to get the rear back in line just in time to brake and nailed the next right apex, maybe I’m learning something trying to drift on the skid pad. So while I’ve made great progress on the 818, I’m trying to avoid spending my entire summer in the garage.

Great job on the fuel tank! Much better than the Boyd tank that I have. The pass thru for the shifter cables is a great idea and I might steal that idea and modify the Boyd tank that I have, since I haven't installed it yet. Keep the videos coming, I really enjoy them.

Thanks for the support and by all means steal away, it’s nice to not have to have the cables up with all the wiring and fuel lines.

I can't watch the video right now, but I have the boyd tank and lifted it up an inch so the transmission linkage could go under that. That might be an easier alternative than modding the boyd tank. I guess it depends on how could your aluminum welding skills are.

Adam, you built a fuel tank from scratch??? Addressing ALL of FFR's issues?? My god you are a God!

It's funny but even with low fuel in tank and running through two 270-deg to make a turnaround on 2 highways crossing each other, I don't experience starvation with the ****ty FFR tank... but I don't like it and it scares me all the time.

Hey you did not weigh the tank, man. lolll
"Not that I plan to remove the tank..." Yeah yeah yeah Adam, you don't, of course... and your next video will show you uninstalling the tank.

    Pumps are Walbro 450s?

Don't forget to read my posts on the K-Tuned loose bolts...

What's that background hiss noise we hear all the time on the video?

But are you under boost at 7-8000rpm on those highway turns? That’s my fear, fuel starvation at the track under high engine load when she’s sucking back fuel fast.

Definitely not the next video, lol, that’ll be on my transmission cooler and pump.

Yes, Walbro 450’s. I believe the part number is 9000274.

I seen it, k-tuned is tight and I’ll keep an eye on it, thanks!

I’m not sure about the noise, need to get a new mic setup. Or learn to edit the sound on my videos. Thanks for putting up with it, and hopefully the background noise will be a rotary at 9000rpm soon!

You're right, I'm just up to 3krpm. Maybe it sucks fuel from the rail and since there's enough cuz I'm way under vacuum, it doesn't starve. At least I know in "respectable" road driving conditions I have no starvation.
I'll have to test how far I can push the car until it starves, but that will be after dyno tuning next Spring.

Best thing is to build your own tank and... oh yeah, that's what you did. loll

I'm long overdue for updating everyone on the car. Lots of changes, lots new, good and bad. Have a video on the wrap to edit, then I think I'll film a quick update video before starting on my winter plans for the car. In the meantime, I added a transmission cooler on the 5mt.

I was 1/2 way thru the video and starting to type a reply about not trying to suck oil thru the filter first when your video made the switch. I really don't think you need either of the two filters, or at most a coarse filter. The 250 micron screen is more than adequate but I would put it on the output side of the pump. As I recall those 250 micron cone filters are designed to have the flow thru the large end to the tip of the cone. If the flow is reversed, flowing tip to large end they can collapse.
But if it works pushing it thru an engine oil filter I guess why not!
Have you followed my series of posts in my build thread and in the R forum on my journey thru the 5 speed cooling issue? Have you addressed the tilt issue?

Yeah the filter location was just more proof I like to learn the hard way, lol. The cone filter is installed before the pump and oil flows into the big end, like pouring oil into a funnel.

I just went back through your thread (there’s A LOT of Subaru dry sump talk in there, haha) and found your transmission whoa’s. Interesting that with the cooler dumping onto 5th gear you were still overheating. I also learned I need to keep up with everyone’s build threads as there’s so much good information buried in them.

My transmission sits on the X frame, actually had to grind off a little tab to get it that low. And I’m pretty sure my engine sits level, but now I’m curious what angle it is at exactly.

Finally able to catch everyone up on the project! Car is really coming together nicely, but unfortunately it isn't all good news. Going to be a busy winter, but I'm confident she'll be ready and waiting for spring! Just found out a track near me (10mins away!) is reopening and I'm so pumped. It's a technical and tight little track designed for karting and bikes, basically auto x on steroids with walls and gravel pits! So I now have 2 tracks close by to put the car and myself to the test.

While I wait for my engine parts to be machined I got bored and decided to port my turbo’s turbine housing before I send it and my manifold out for ceramic coating. My engine will be ported and flowing more and my concern is that the internal wastegate won’t flow enough for me to run a lower boost level without creep. While I may not have an issue at all, the porting was free and allowed me to clean up some rough castings.

So I picked up a 6mt a couple of months ago for a good deal. At the time I had no plans to install it just yet as I’ve put a fair amount of work into my 5mt setup. However, my new engine setup will be heavily ported meaning my lowest possible power level is probably going to be too high and it won’t be long before I start breaking things. Most likely the first to break will be axles but maybe it’s not worth it to continue to invest in the 5mt. Considering selling the whole setup to a fellow builder that’s at a reasonable power level. The 6mt is a late 2007 so no internal oil pump which means my cooler setup will still be of use.

My rear spindle/hub is from a non turbo 2007 and probably isn’t up to the task of increased torque. I didn’t replace the bearing either. I know some have used STI hubs and bearings, which I still may do, but finding what modifications are needed has proved difficult. There’s also the added expense and wanting to replace the used hubs with new only adds to that.

    On to my idea...
I’m thinking of building my own spindle (may do this in the front too at some point) similar to what Wisefab makes for the Impreza. Some plate steel, a little machining, both of which I can do myself. However, instead of using rear hubs, I’d use the bolt on style front STI hubs in the back. This would mean I could use a complete STI axle (which I have), making replacements readily available. The CV’s are more than strong enough, and if I need to upgrade, DSS has shafts for 600ft/lbs for under $600. Below are some pics of the Wisefab spindles/uprights. It would look like the rear one, but the hub part like the front one. I’d be eliminating the adapter piece from FFR as they would be 818 specific. I’m looking for the experts to chime in and poke holes in my idea, maybe I’m not thinking of something.
