Is a 2009 production drag radial too old to use?

I can purchase (2) brand new BFGoodrich DR for under $300.00 for both shipped to my door. They have been stored indoors their entire life. They will be going on a 400whp car if that matters. Is 5 years old something I should be concerned with (safety and or performance)?

My personal opinion is that if they have been stored indoors and haven't been exposed to sunlight and they should be fine.

Was just looking on line and depending on size, BFG's are reasonable and that might not be such a great deal. Yes you will save $$ but not that much. I would look into new price.

These tires are being sold as old stock from a tire dealer.

Old tires get hard... Formula V (GRM did an eval) can bring them back but I'd look for newer date coses

2-3 years is generally as old as you want to go with performance tires. Especially so if they were not bagged/wrapped since new. Being stored indoors is good, but they will still continually outgas the natural oils and get harder over time. Once they get to a certain point, they will never soften up again as a good drag radial should...especially when you will be heat-cycling them on every run. They may work ok, but you will run out of heat cycles long before usable rubber
