Hey Chris thanks Fortunate to have a brother recovering from heart surgery helping and keeping me motivated with the build. An extra set of hands and skillful mechanical experience is a big help. close to first start in next few weeks

    First Start 331 Stroker

Wired up the 1965 Mustang Ignition switch yesterday and installed a mechanical oil pressure gauge. no water in radiator just wanted to see if it would fire. it was successful

Filled radiator with water and fired it up for second time and brought to temp. Electric fan came on and I removed the cardboard from the radiator. My kid filming must have thought I said we were filming the shop bathroom door.

My Brother Ron mounted and balanced the the tires today at his work on a Hunter Road Force machine. We came home and got them on the Roadster and sat it down on it's own feet.

My Brother Ron got the first Go Cart ride for all the help I've received over the last month. I got the second trip down the driveway. Boy the Bill Boards sure pick up the sand and pebbles!

    Completed Dash

Spent the past week working on the Dash and wiring. Visited a Local Marine upholstery shop that was able too, I believe match the color and texture/grain of the FFR seats. I used a high temp spray adhesive to bond cover to the dash. I ordered the Mike Everson Steering Bezel & lower dash tray, also covered with same material and mounted the heater vents, LED courtesy lights hooked to the 65 mustang light switch, Odometer trip reset & Clock set buttons. Used a quart can to mold the ends of the dash and came out perfect.

    Wheel Alignment

In preparation for the Alignment I set the ride height to 4 1/2" in front and 5 1/2 rear. Put it on the lift and checked that everything was torqued properly then loaded on the trailer for a short 3 mi drive to my brothers work for him to align. First greased all the fittings then he aligned with no issues.

    Rick,

I ordered an MKIV with a completion date of 5/16/2015. I'm down here in Sammamish, but travel to BC often. Be great to see your setup some time. Blaine

    Twin Fan install

I ordered the motors and fan blades from Grainger online. Machined mounting brackets and welded to 1/2 square tube. Need to determine the location in ref. to opening in the body before making brackets to mount to the 3/4 frame. I will wire direct to dash switch but may not use much as it's more of looks thing for me

    Trunk Struts

Took Jeff Kleiner's recommendation and installed Mike Everson's struts in the trunk. fast shipping, great instructions and perfect fit. Highly recommend during build while the body is off. Camera angle makes it appear to not be centered

    Upper Ball Joint Pinned

Long after the front suspension assembly has been completed I see Jeff Kleiner's post about pinning the upper ball joint to prevent it from backing out. I happen to be one that the ball joint threaded in by hand. Even with Blue Loctite and torquing I feel better about them pinned.

I did mine with Body off and turned wheel all the way left to access the left front area control arm.

I used 1/8 x 3/4 roll pin and as Jeff states easy to pull the pin if you need to change ball joint

Took 5 min. a side. I bought extra pins so I'll throw in pocket next time I come your way to visit. You use your 1/8" rivet drill bit and drill 3/8 depth and tap the pin in.

Having a lift has saved the back during the trimming of the body. Wheel wells trimmed back to 3/16" and rolled over, hood opening trimmed down to 3/16", dash edge just cleaned up maybe removed 1/8" rear bulkhead was trimmed rough from FFR I trimmed down to the min. that was there which was about 1/4" I used a 3" thin cutoff wheel on a air die grinder, made a nice clean cut then sanded with 36 and 80 grit.

I used Edward's method and maybe others to secure the ********** side vents in place. Mcmaster 10-32 perforated mounts glued in with HSFR. now the decision to paint Guardsman Blue body color or leave polished stainless. Anyone have pics of Blue painted to share?

This weekend I tackled the first gallon and half of Slick Sand on the Body, doors and lids top and bottom. 2 coats on bottom side and 3 on the tops. Prior to primer I blocked to 150 after the initial 80 grit after applying the Rage Gold. I bought a new gun with 2.4 tip. Everything I read on form is to not use the internal filter. Saw that there was a filter in the parts box so assumed the filter wasn't installed WRONG! that was an extra. Lesson learned should have disassembled the gun before I started. It plugged after the second quart and while the 3rd Qt had been catalyzed. Removed the plugged filter cleaned entire gun with Acetone and lost the qt as it started to kick. next is to mount the body to fit removable panels

Spent the last week mounting the Body to the frame. pulled off body once for a few minutes to adjust the left 3/4 front frame 3/4 inch towards the pass side so the body would align and the quick jacks were centered in oval cutouts. I have the new style mounting brackets that mount body to the front maker lights rough fit hood and trunk on hinges and next will be the windshield before doors

Spent half day fitting the side pipes after reading hours of posts. Both side have very different shapes when done. Took Jeff Miller's advice from a old post that said if the engine is setting level cut the body to fit side pipes, So I did. Thanks DaBat. Also followed his Body mounting procedure which many have endorsed

Taped cutout was the Right side and the installed pipe is left side where the cutout is 1 1/4 higher and angles back towards rear of body. both sides looks good. good thing I'm getting old because i look at one side and run to the other and forgot what the first side looked like LOL

Mine is just a hint darker than Guardsman, but here is what my DS ********** vent looks like painted.

    Rick,

Thanks for posting all the body preparation photos in particular ... I am getting ready to tackle that in the next few months.

    Looks great.

Thanks Nuke I have made decision to paint the side vents body color as yours are, Looks good

Jeff Thanks for your support and comments, There are many of your mods already incorporated - Rear quick jack mounts, O-rings behind front marker lights, Hood strut ball socket move one hole up to prevent bottom out, License place, Upper ball joint roll pin and probably a few more. Have a true appreciation for you guys that try to make some profit doing these. When done I may add bodywork to the long list I have of what I don't want to be when I grow up. Sheetrock, Concrete, Roofer etc.

Carl, If you haven't found Jeff and Steve's bodywork post it's good reading and provides good understanding of what needs to happen in what sequence

    Registered and Insured last week

Incase anyone is wondering why the MKIV is out on the streets I did register and insure it last week so I could get some shake down miles on it before it goes to paint in Oct. Here in WA State it's pretty easy to register due to the SEMA Bill passed several years ago. I was in and out of the DOL office in 15 min. With the MSO and Complete Kit receipt from FFR I was able to license as a 1965 with my correct vintage plates. Since it's considered a classic a one time permanent registration was issued. In all the excitement of the drive I forgot that the Speedhut Speedo needs the 2-mile calibration which now has to wait until the rain goes away in a few days.

Here were the pictures I had to send to Robbin at Midwest Classics for insurance. Great guy to work with. Got it all done in one day.
