    Whitby Motorcars Tonneau Dual Roll Bar

    Does anyone have one? I was curious about quality of the cover and for a close up pic of the fasteners.

    Fasteners are standard "lift the dot" units that you would find on any English roadster.

    Kevin, does the cover come with the "dots" already installed, or did you have to use the tool to install them in the fabric? Did you use the screw-in type for the body, or bolt-through type?

    These fasteners are used in marine application too. I was a sailmaker for many years so I know them well. If you are using the screw in type be careful when removing the top. They can hang up causing extra pull on the fastener and the fabric (if you always release them straight up- no problem). You can actually damage the fabric around the female part if not careful. I never used the screw in type on fiberglass since a lot of customers were not that careful about how they removed their covers on the boats. I just watched the Whitbey instructions for the roadster soft top. I've been thinking about getting one. Same type and location for top and tonneau. Whitbey rents the tool for this process if you need it.

    Hi Dale,

    The cover comes without the dots being installed. The studs are bolt on. I made an impulse buy on the cover when I saw one installed while I was there approving the final spray outs for the paint. I had Whitby do the install. Looks & feels like the covers on my Morgan's & Triumph's of the dark distant past. Good big zipper down the middle to ride with one side up in cold weather. They use Velcro to fit around the roll bar legs. A bit pricy put it does its job.

    I just Got the dual Roll Bar Tonneau from Whitbys, there are two type of lift the dot posts, I has a provision for a washer and nut and the other looks like a wood or machine screw tapered thread.

    Any Suggestions

    With the body on you might not be able to get behind some of the panels to mount the washer & bolts. Might need the other type for those locations. I use mine during the winter to keep the heat in, no pulled studs so far.

    Lift the dot means exactly that, lift at the dot on the fastener to apply the least amount of pressure to the studs.

    I should be ok with the install, the panel behind the seats is removable and I made the dashboard removable as well. That just leaves the doors for the other kind of studs. I had several sports cars with these as in Fiat 124, sunbeam alpine and tiger.

    FWIW I only have one stud on the door & know all the rest are bolted.



    You can see the stud pattern here. This is a Whitby install, had it done when the car was painted. As mentioned it was an impulse buy when I saw it on another car at the shop.

    The stud at the front of the door is on the door. The one at the back is on the body.

    thanks Kevin. I wanted to see how noticeable the studs were without the top on. and how the Velcro looked around the roll bars . . . studs aren't as noticeable as I thought they would be, cant see the Velcro . . .

    Took this as a reference with a baseball hat for size. Studs look just like they did on all the English cars in the 1950-1960 time frame. Had some Triumphs & Morgans back then. Same studs are also used for roadsters with removable canvas tops.

    If you go with studs be sure they are bolt ins with backing plates or washers. Mine are & its a Whitby cover so I would guess that its standard for them but pays to check wherever you source it.

    When its on you can't see the Velcro.

    This is a while off for me, but the tonneau and soft top use the same stud pattern correct?
    I imagine you’d have to get the top and tonneau from the same place? Looks like the studs would interfere with the new ffr premium top?

    Giggling in the background was my oldest daughter who is competitive & taking the vid. Zinged the old guy when ever he screwed up. I had a better time in this one but took down 14 cones with a spin in another where she had a clean run.

    Live in NC so never considered a top & have no idea about the tops stud layout. FWIW the original English cars used the same pattern for both.

    Just a quick note it's not a 427 side-oiler it's a 427 SOHC motor much more exotic and nasty sounding
