That should look good. I always liked the original LeMans hardtops. You plan on keeping it removable i presume so it might look similar to this set up.

I like that. Best part is no need to screw w/ the standard trunk lid.

    Pretty nice looking ...

Do you keep or eliminate the standard trunk lid? I guess if it is removable you would have to leave the standard lid but if it is permanent you could modify the rear end to fit the lid shown.

Nice. Is that hatch a two piece with a liner? More pics please.

Just a thought: the top may be complimented by the big flares. It may actually look more proportional. The stock body looks a little top heavy with the other type of hardtop I've seen. So you should mock it up on the car like you did the flares and trunk so we get a better idea about it.

    Thanks,

    WEK.

That one from DB replicas is the one I am planning to see if I can fit to my MK4. Fingers crossed as (to me at least), it's the best looking of the hard top options that I've seen. Although it does make it look like a BMW Z4 coupe a bit.

Did you ever think about not using the hatch & just have a flying buttress like the 65 GTO & Chevelle SS?

I love that look. Someone makes a top like that. I will see if I can find the information on it. It's a great look!

    Hi Steve,

How is the build going? Had a 66 GTO Tri-Power Ram Air, 4 speed Muncie wide ratio, LSD with 3:70 gears in the color of the photo. With factory rally wheels not the ones in the picture. When I see one coming up on the block at Mecum or Barret Johnson I turn off the TV so I don't cry.

Just found this. My car at Seaside Park, NJ summer of 1966. This is before MTV made the place infamous. Was excellent surfing a little way back up the beach at Lavallette, NJ.

    Regards,

Yes like that. Might thin the buttress out a little by extending the window width a little but think overall is a easier application than a hatch. Think if I still lived up in Jersey I would seriously look into one.

This is what I'm looking for: reminds me of Dodge Viper... which Shelby created as a follow-on to the Roadster with a hardtop... best of my knowledge, not fact. Ok, now it's almost 2020, what are we doing for a fastback or this look. I choose this bc it looks removable and less engineering than messing with the trunk. I've seen the fastback with the short trunk live, like it but it was hand made aluminum $20k for a real Cobra.

Guess it's OK to hijack my own thread with a finished picture of the hardtop, right?
Miller did a great job with the body work and paint and knock it out of the park!

I know I'm planning on getting a soft top for sure, but having a hard top would be just as cool, if not a better option for me. I would think that FFR would break into this area and offer up a couple of designs and options <-- Hint Hint! The cars look sweet and I dig the different styles being shown. I see that these are mainly coming out of Britain, which makes sense, but I'm curious as to a cost for one of these tops? I could see spending 3-4g's, but having to have it shipped over I'm sure it's much more? Dumb question, but is it possible to put on a bimini top on a roadster? I know, probably dumb idea, but I'm just thinking about future long road trips I have planned. I'm sure the sun tends to bake you like a toasted cheeser? And probably why I haven't seen one on a car is that the stress of the wind would most likely play havoc on the windscreen and perhaps it just wouldn't be a viable option? Anyway, thanks for posting the pics and info!

For the record. Mine is not a top from that company. The i.e.427 plate you see on the car in the shop photo is the name of my company. I do follow that English top company and know that Mike Forte has made an inquiry to them to sell their tops here in the States. After import fees and shipping the $10K price is pretty steep. I sourced my top in raw gelcoat form a guy in PA. I probably have 150-175 hours in making it fit the car, fabricating mounts to fasten it to the car and fabricating the hinges & latch/arms for the rear hatch. I also had to pattern the rear lexan, fit and cut it to size. This is by no means a weekend project. I'm probably into the finished top somewhere between $2-2.5K + all of the man hrs. You really need to love the look and function of the top to make this kind of commitment.

From 427 hardtops Facebook page... Looks like the cost would be $5k plus FOB. Not exactly sure what FOB is though - freight/shipping cost?

    Thanks, initiator.

I went to 427hardtops website and asked for a quote for a top shipped to the US, and received this response: they currently have no agent in the US, but they’re working on it. They will post to social media when they get one.

    Cheers,

Vet nice Frank! I like what you have done.

As for the 427 tops, what’s $5k on top of what you already have spent?

I believe the 427hardtops version, which looks really nice, will not fit over the standard FF roll bars. I remember thinking that I'd have to change to the Breeze roll bars if I wanted to get this top.
