    Last (operational) of its Kind

We all like big HP mechanical "stuff"... Here's one for you...
4 cylinder, 24" bore, 32" stroke, makes about 6300 HP, and weighs 1-1/4 million pounds...

By total chance I was able to witness a true "Last of it's Kind" mechanical wonder...
About 11:40 today I was on my way from 3M Menomonie to the convenience store and there were a bunch of cars parked along the side road, dozens of people with lawn chairs and cameras out. I stopped and asked what was up... "The U.P. "Big Boy" #4014 is coming through here in about 10 minutes!"

4014 has just this year completed a 5 year restoration and it is on a 30 day tour of Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, and then there will be a trip out to the west coast.

Thanks for the memories, Fixit, we lived in the mid west for a number of years and we enjoyed the trains going by the neighborhood. Nice blast from the past...

The westbound schedule is posted for the Sept 27-late November California trip to LA.

Looks like it will be going through Wyo, Utah, Nevada, California, New Mexico, Arizona, Texas, Arkansas, Kansas, and Colorado.

Goo www.UPsteam.com for the schedule, and the tentative map for the trip.
