Dirt inside Speedhut Tach glass?
I need help with a weird new problem on my MkIV. The FFR-supplied Speedhut tach now has dirt inside the glass lens, that looks like coarse dust or bad dandruff. To get rid of it I tried blowing compressed air around the chrome edge lens retainer, but that just moved the stuff into the middle of the lens. Any advice on how to clean this out would really be appreciated, esp. without removing the gage. Does the lens come off somehow? The car is perfect in every other way (at least to me), so I'd love to fix this.

I'm pretty sure the chrome bezel screws off and you can access the inside. If you are uncomfortable with doing this contact Speedhut.

Yeah the chrome bezel unscrews simply. Just take if off, clean the glass and crud out and screw it back in. you shouldn't even have to remove the gauge from the car.

Thanks to 427 (CDXXVII), Wallace, FFinisher and Tony for the rapid responses. That's one of the great things about this forum - it only took 4 hours to get some good answers to a peculiar problem. I'll comment once more once I've done the job if there are any hangups.

The trim ring/bezel does indeed unscrew, allowing the glass to be removed and cleaned. Did it today. Thanks again guys.
