For Sale: Factory Five Racing Mk4 Roadster #7750. Sold and Delivered

    *** #7750 is SOLD ***

Today I am officially offering my Mk4 Roadster for sale. This is all new non-donor build. The kit was purchased September, 2012 as a base kit with multiple added options. Completed February, 2015. It has been driven for two seasons with 3,288 miles on the odometer. All street cruising. Never raced. It is in absolutely mint condition and could easily pass as brand new. This was my second FFR build. It has high quality parts throughout, multiple custom features and options, and is an absolute blast and pleasure to drive. There are no known issues. Titled in Michigan as a 2015 Assembled Roadster, clear title. I didn’t build it to sell. But with retirement I wanted to build another. The just completed 20th Anniversary Roadster is about to be legal, and we are a one Roadster family. I truly hate to see it go. But a deal is a deal.

Highlights: Custom built DART 347 stroker engine, TKO600 transmission, Gordon Levy 5-link rear suspension, GAS-N stainless steel side pipes, Wilwood pedal box, Wilwood 4-wheel disk brakes, Fast Freddie's Fabrications Electro-Hydraulic Power Steering kit on steering and hydroboost brakes, chassis and 100% of all panels gloss black powder coated, Lizard Skin heat and sound insulation in cockpit and trunk, Wurth SKS Stone Guard on underside of body, FFR carpet in cockpit with additional sewn edging, Bentley carpet in trunk, Infinity/Alpine/Polk Audio sound system with remote, FFR Halibrand style 5-lug 17-inch wheels, Nitto 555 Extreme tires, 255 front, 315 rear, custom show quality candy red paint by Motor City Solutions, custom badging. Completely detailed and serviced. Starts instantly and runs great. Ready to roll.

This build won first place in the 2015 Detroit Autorama Hand Built Sports class. It won Best in Show at the 2015 Factory Five Open House in Wareham. It has multiple contest wins and best in show awards. But it isn’t a trailer queen. It’s a driver and it just doesn’t get better than this. If you’re looking for a high end build and don’t want to spend the time, this is for you. You can be confident in the build quality. I fully documented the build here: http://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showt...rogress-Update

Asking $55,000. A build with this content and quality would be more for parts alone, not including labor, if you could find it. I will deliver via covered trailer in the Michigan/Ohio/Indiana/Illinois area. Further distance negotiable. I can be reached here on the forum. PM with questions or for contact info. Additional details and pictures below.

    Additional Pictures

Some have noticed the pictures I posted are the same ones as my graduation thread 2+ years ago. Those are the best I have and it's not easy to take decent outdoor pictures this time of year in Michigan. Here are pictures taken last night in my garage. The Roadster is up on jack stands as I'm wrapping up oil change, chassis lube, and overall detailing getting it ready for its new owner. The candy red looks a little different with indoor incandescent lighting versus outdoors in the sun. But you can see the exact current condition of the Roadster. Also visible are two London Cobra Show stickers on the windshield. The interior picture shows the grab handle mentioned in the text but not installed at the time of the first pictures. You can also see the newest build in the background. Twins. Let me know if there's anything else anyone would like to see or know more about. Thanks.

Also, here is a picture of the Gordon Levy 5-link installation while early in the build. Considered by many to be the best solid axle setup, and equal to or better than IRS in some respects. Rides and drives great.

I've seen this one in person (and in fact was one of the judges who awarded it best of show at the open house!)---it's a beauty and can assure the purchaser that they will not be disappointed!

Just in case there are any new forum members that joined looking for a car to purchase and are unfamiliar with EdwardB's work this is the car you want to buy and the builder you want to buy from! The build quality is what all of us here aspire to. If I were in the market to purchase a roadster the list of cars I would aspire to own would start and end with this car.

    EdwardB,

The drop trunk corner piece that you have on this car, did you make it or did you order it from some place?
    Please advise & thanks!

I made it. I've not seen anything like that offered from anyone. Most use the entire available space rather than just the corner.

    Detailing Finished. Walk-around Video Posted

There has been some interest, but still waiting for a buyer. Today I’ve finished all the planned clean-up and detailing. It’s ready for the new owner to take it away. The main work was to clean up a number of rock chips around the front of the body. The nose of these cars seems to be a magnet. Two driving seasons on our fine Michigan roads and 3000+ miles and it took some hits. Almost all were in the red, with just a couple in the white. They’re done right with 2-part spot putty if needed, color, filled with PPG DCU-2021 2-part clear, wet sanded, and polished with a small air buffer and the Norton Liquid Ice polish system. Chips all gone! Then put a fresh coat of sealant on the entire body.

Full disclosure -- there is one small area about 1 x 2 inches on the very bottom under the oil cooler opening that had gotten scratched last summer coming out of a driveway. Grrr. It’s now completely filled, color touched up, cleared over, wet sanded and polished. Completely smooth and flat. Unfortunately, the white wasn’t a perfect match. So it’s slightly visible. But only to ants or if it’s on a lift.

I quickly did a walk-around video just to give one more look at what I’m offering here. I did start it and let it run for a minute or so before taking the video, so it wouldn’t be up on the choke and fast idle when I climbed out. You can see just a bit of temperature in the water temp gauge is it pans by. But it starts cold just as easily as it started here. You can see the engine makes great oil pressure. Also the alternator is exactly where it's supposed to be. The sound quality isn’t the best from the little Canon compact camera, but turn your volume up and you can hear the 347 bark pretty good. The sound when I turn the key on is the electric pump driving the power steering and brakes (Fast Freddie’s EHPS) but you can never hear it once the engine is running. I showed the stereo unit in the glovebox. It has AM and FM (not too great actually), USB, aux (jack under the center dash), and Bluetooth which is what I use most of the time. It’s actually designed for marine use, so it’s waterproof along with the four marine rated Polk Audio speakers. Also has a waterproof remote. There's an Alpine power amp behind the dash. The button in the glovebox is for setting the clock. The sun was shining into the open garage door, so messed with the video some. But also gives a good visual of the candy red color.

Not much else needs explanation. Let me know if any questions. Here’s the video.

I've lowered the asking price to $55,000. I'm fully aware this is a premium price. Yes you can build one of these for less. For some builders, much less. But do the math on what's in this build, including the custom engine, 5-link rear suspension, very high end paint, multiple options and custom features, and you'll be well over this amount. I have the receipts to prove it. With the fully documented build, you can see exactly how it was put together and buy with confidence. Especially if building one isn't your thing. It's fully sorted and ready to drive and enjoy. I'm going to keep marketing the car until it sells, including channels other than the forums. But I don't plan to lower the asking price any further. I'm confident someone will see the value and make it theirs.

    Last Pictures, I Promise

Looking back over the ad, I realize I didn't provide pictures for the trunk or the VIN. You could wade through the build thread and find the trunk detail, but here it is and also shows current condition since these pictures were just taken. The trunk is fully carpeted, including the sides, with fitted and glued jet black Bentley automotive carpet from Miami Corp. This is very high quality plush automotive carpet. With the battery in the front, it's not taking space from the trunk. I added the small storage area on the LH side above the tank. Helps when space is at a premium. There is a trunk light (wiped out some by the flash) that turns on automatically with a hidden switch on one of the hinges. Also shown is the underside of the trunk lid. It's highly finished just like the body, including the removable access cover. There are no imperfections in the paint. Those are all reflections. Note the hinges were bonded and painted along with the lid. The hood is the same way. Gives a nice finished look.

Here is the engraved Factory Five chassis number and the official Michigan Assembled Vehicle VIN tag. I purposely obscured some of it. PM if you want the whole number.

And finally, I just snapped a picture with the gauges lit and LED footwell lights on. I think it looks cool. The footwell lights are on the outside dash supports, turned on by twisting the headlight switch knob to the courtesy light position.

    Thanks again for looking.

    Paul-

She looks beautiful! I am confident that you will find a buyer and soon.

While I hate to see you sell her, I am looking forward to your next build. I also hope it's a Gen III Coupe!

    Regards,

    Steve

Whoever ends up with this car will be a very lucky person. 55K is a steal.

Good luck selling it Paul. I'm sure it stings a little...

HI Paul....third time lucky trying to make a comment on your superb build threads for #7750 and #8674. I don't think I've seen better threads containing so much information for the newby builder. I discovered your anniversary Mk4 build thread first and once I started to read I was hooked......two days later and sitting back in awe of your accomplishment just happened to coincide with your "Best Home Build" win. Then a couple of days later #7750 came up for sale and I read that thread too. Awesome Paul just awesome. I thoroughly recommend both reads prior to purchase to see the high quality, attention to detail, fabrication skills not to mention the quality of your postings and educational tips. I lost count of the times I figuratively saw the light bulb illuminate amongst other builders as the penny dropped. When you came across a problem you thought about it and solved it. I can't fault any decision you made and the end result speaks for itself. Check check double check, measure, dry fit, check again and then commit. Any other builder on this forum can readily attest to the quality and if I can only do one thing it would be please don't sell yourself short ! The new owner who ever it becomes will have a permanent record of your build from inception to award(s). Even if it meant a change to the build manual you thought about it and I really admire your inner eye and engineering foresight to then take your idea and incorporate it into your build.....FactoryFive should have you on commission !....Finally your next project...I do hope you go for the Gen 3 65 Coupe ! WE are all in for a treat if you do...(might as well maximise the use out of that 2 arm lifting gear that's saved your back and knees ! (not that you need any further encouragement)....Great job Paul

Last night I loaded #7750 into the SE for the final time. Left Michigan early this morning and today delivered it to its new owner in New York. We went over everything, signed the papers, took a spirited drive with the 347 doing it's thing, and the keys were officially handed over. I was sad to see it go. But extremely pleased it more than met the buyer's expectation.

Now to get #8674 titled and licensed. Then there's the matter of that empty garage bay.

So, when are you ordering your Gen III Coupe? Can't wait to see that.

I'm sure you were sad to see it go Paul. But in the end, I'm sure the new owner will appreciate and respect all the detail that went into the build process of the car, not just the final result.

Thanks. Actually that was one of the selling points he cited. Seeing the build details on-line and in person was a major influence on the sale. There's a big lesson there IMO. Factory Five's have a great reputation for the design and performance. One could argue as good or better than any competitor. The later versions especially with the many refinements over the years by Factory Five and with the Mk4 a more authentic body shape. The variation is in the quality of the parts used and the quality of the build itself. Overall fit, finish, quality paint, color, all are important. Offer buyers a documented build, to a high standard, with quality parts, and resale is hugely affected. I see people all the time saying they aren't worried about resale value so don't take that into consideration during the build. I didn't build #7750 to sell. That was the farthest thing from my mind when I built it. But 2+ years later things changed, another build happened, and then so did the sale. Suddenly resale aspects were important.

Planning to check it out in person at the Open House and/or London. Can't imagine we won't like it, but want to see it first. Plan is to order in time for delivery toward the end of the year and get started over the winter. Each of my builds have been about 2 years. Since this has some new aspects for me and a little more complex, expect it will take every bit of that. But I won't care if it's longer. I enjoy the build process too much to rush, plus even though I'm retired, I still have other things to do. In the meantime, I'll have #8674 to drive and plenty of room in the garage for both.
