Jaguar D-type body on a Mark II frame

After about 4 months, one very large crate from Dorset, UK has appeared in my garage.

    Seriously it was huge!

Jag D-type! Cobra in the corner....

With great nervousness, I put the nose on my Mark II frame. IMHO, it passes the eye test with flying colors. A whole boat load of work ahead of me but that's why I went for it.

My build plan will be very kept simple, Carbed '99 Explorer 302, T-5 from an '87 GT & FOX body 3 link solid axle. Very similar to my Mark III build.

    Pat
Mark III 4630RD Explorer 302, Holley SA570, FRPP B-cam, 4 to 4's, 3 Link, Bullitt wheels, Baer Brakes, 3.73 gears, HD T-5, I2 wiring, Koni Coilovers, Classic Gauges. Jaguar Racing Green w/ Silver stripes

Best of luck with this build. My first impression looking at the body is the cockpit is way forward for the cobra chassis, will be watching with interest on how you deal with this issue.

The Shell Valley D-type is built on their cobra frame, but their version is kind of clunky. What you have seems like a better idea all the way around. The body looks a whole lot sleeker, just like the cat is supposed to be. Who was the supplier of the body ??

Very cool project! I'll be following this for sure. I would assume right from the get-go that the Jag body isn't as high top to bottom and the frame will need to be cut down some? This is awesome stuff. Lightweight D type is a long time favorite of mine.

It did, but I had it deleted because I'm going LHD...

Shell Valley does a C-type, yeah just not right. I'm hoping I can do the D-type justice. I'm not going to go crazy making it a perfect replica but rather something cool with a mixture of D-type and XK SS elements. The body is from Tribute Automotive, Dorset UK

Is there any way you could do the headrest w/ fin on the driver side? That would really make a statement. Heck, if I saw that, I doubt I would even realize you are driving on the wrong side compared to an original.

That headrest could be easily made using just a few pieces of C-Flex too.

This stuff is great to make boat plugs (male boat molds) or one off fiberglass boats on nearly any size.

Hmmm. I think Jag used the TH400 for awhile so maybe that Chevy idea isn't so far out there?? Of course a turbo V12 would be nice also. If only I could get that Avanti body on the Gen III chassis with an SRT V10....

Yes this is a very interesting project! Good luck Pat,

The FFR Roadster and Coupe chassis' are such a great platform, I've wondered why more bodies weren't made to use them.
Roadster seems like it could also be used for Cheetah (with an LS!!!)
And the Coupe would be a base for a 250 GTO! (barring licensing issues, and that's probably the kicker)

I thought that too... Put up or shut up time for me! The 33 could really be a base for something cool too...

You are correct, needs to shift back around 4" The cockpit is the same 35". Really not unsuspected and I already knew the cockpit needs to shift to the right (meant to be RHD), so there will be a time to break out the sawsall, and go "Hoofa" on it.

I kind of like the headrest like Jim Taylor's D-type, but I'm already committed to the XK SS style trunk/rear-end but with normal trunk. No letter slot trunk, the wife want to be able to fit more wine in it.

Sorry guys for lack of updates, I'm up to my eye balls in a kitchen remodel. Keeping the wife happy! I have rebuilt my 8.8 and installed 4.10 gears, should make her real snappy!

In 70s and 80s Jags,(I know that doesn't include a C or D type) the only way to not have a Jag permanently parked at a dealers service department was to put a SBC in it. My uncle swore that his was at the dealer more than his own house. Not that my uncle wasn't prone to exaggerating a little.

I know how that goes. A one point in my build, I could stand in my kitchen, look down and see the Cobra in the garage below.
