Congrats Dave. Too bad we finished our builds at the wrong time of year.

I like your list of Things To Do Differently. I also should have done the Russ Thompson turn signal, but really thought I'd want the removable steering wheel. Now that I've had a bit of practice, the wheel doesnt come off anymore. And considering that I did everything else exactly how I wanted, I too would go IRS on the next build.

Anyways, nice job building and finishing.

Thanks, Boyd. I'll be trying to thread the needle between the winter storms to get my VIN and get the car registered in time for next year's driving season.

Congrats Dave, you really have a high-end roadster there! Cant wait to see it on the road.

I’m interested in those clear spats too, did you go to the clear bra place to have them installed or is that something you did yourself? Also, you said you would have saved some money by doing IRS, is that the case or is that a typo? I thought it was the other way around.

Thanks, Bradley. What I intended to say was that I'd have saved up a little more money and done IRS. At the time I ordered my kit, there was about a $2,500 difference in price. In the long run, that's really not too much. I think to do it now would be even less of a price difference since there are so many rear clips available in the salvage market.

Ah, got it. Well, I’m still saving up for a top. I’d have it already if it weren’t for the IRS expense. I may even go with the old style just to save money.

I made an appointment with the Colrado State Patrol office in Castle Rock to get my VIN inspection and application process going. Now let's just hope the weather cooperates. The earliest available appointment I was able to schedule is December 31. It could be 50 degrees or -15 degrees. Wish me luck.

    Dave,

Been following along on your journey since your first post . . . you have done an exceptional job, paid extreme attention to detail and have raised the bar to quite a few new builders that are searching for guidance in their adventure. You are Da Man!
And your car shows all that, a build to be very, very proud of.

Congratulations on a job well done.

I contacted my county's vehicle registration office about getting a temp tag to allow me to drive the car to the CSP inspection. I was pleased to hear that they will issue me a ten day temp tag by simply showing them proof of insurance. So, I plan to go take care of that next Monday. Looking at the long range weather forecast, it's looking good for my inspection date on the 31st.

It was 65 degrees in the Denver area today and I was stuck tinkering in the garage. I ordered a set of aluminum spats from VeryCoolParts.com and they arrived yesterday. Today I test fit them to my car and after very minor adjustments, I spent a couple of hours polishing them. Once they had the shine I wanted, I cleaned the back side and the car with alcohol wipes and applied 3M 03614 Scotch-Mount 1/2 Molding Tape to the spats and then pressed them into place on the car. Once I was satisfied they were set, I wiped the bare aluminum down with Shark Hide. I'm very happy with the result.

I may take the other set of clear ones I bought and trim them to fit over the aluminum.

Thanks, Jeff. The crud they put down on our roads when it snows was going to shred the bottom of the quarters. Even the clear spats were getting chewed up after just a couple of loops around the block.

Nice. I ordered a set too but haven’t had time to take them out of the box. Thanks for the inspiration.

Another warm winter day in Colorado and another day in the shop rather than on the road. Today I tackled the floor mat anchors. Using the same approach that GTBradley showed in his thread and the very same anchors, I made the holes in the mats and installed the mat part of the anchors. Then I located the mat where I wanted it and pushed the carper portion of the anchors in and attached the mat to them with a twist of the "lock" on each anchor.

Now on to the next task ...

After getting the mats installed with the new anchors, I installed my top. Not a quick job by any means, but it fits perfectly and I love the look.

Tomorrow morning I'm going to get a temp tag and if the weather is as nice as it has been, I'll get the car on the road for the very first time.

Dave, the car looks absolutely spectacular! I dig the final touches that you've added, just takes it to a higher level and just completes and compliments the entire build. I know I plan on getting a soft top as well. Hopefully this coming week, I'll finalize my delivery date for January. I still plan to come down sometime and visit with you and of course, see the masterpiece you've built. However, I'll wait til the holidays are behind us to bug ya, since it can be a busy time for all of us right now. I'm out here on your build thread a bunch, I'm sure you see my name :P I was just recently checking your tranny tunnel/cover part. So... Thanks for documenting and explaining things all along the way too. Anyway, the car looks absolutely gorgeous! Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
