    Centering the dash

What is the best reference point(s) to use the center the dash? The ends of the hoop related to the end of the flat dash. Find the center of the chassis hoop and centerline of the dash? Align the steering column to the center of the hole in the dash? Something else? Is there a better way?

    Thanks.....Joel

    Joel,

I don't know if this is the best solution, but it is what I did.

    1. Located/Found the exact center point of the car and marked the arched square tube that the dash would mount to.
    2. Installed the steering shaft, but left the bearing support loose.
    3. Located/Found the exact center point of the dash, which was the aluminum piece in my case.
    4. Aligned the dash center line of the dash with the center line of the frame.
    5. Adjusted the bearing so that the steering shaft was centered in the oval hole from left to right.
    6. Adjusted the height of the dash so that steering shaft was aligned inside of the oval hole from top to bottom.
    7. Tighten the bearing down and then drilled the dash in the top center, though the square tube, so that I could install a Cleco Fastener to temporarily hold it in place.

While this method may not be the best, it worked for me.

I forgot one thing, make sure the bottom of the dash is level with the 2" square tube that runs across the cockpit. You want it to be level with that or it will bug you for the rest of your life.
