    Oil Temperature Sensor Location

    Hi Guys & Gals,

Does anybody know where an Oil Temperature Sensor can be installed other than the oil pan drain plug?

    Thanks,

    Jack

Oil pan is best, Killer B pans have a provision for it.

Oil galley locations are most common - or a sandwich plate if you have one. Perhaps this would be ideal time for adding an oil cooler. If you do - consider whether you want a thermostat-ed sandwich plate depending on the use of the vehicle.

Have you considered a oil filter sandwich adapter?
Is this an option for your engine because it might be if it uses a spin on canister style filter?

Yes I have. My custom exhaust allows for removal of the oil filter. With that sandwich I would have to remove the exhaust on one engine. I'm going with an M20x1.5 plug with a VDO sensor if I can find one that is ready to go without having to modify it.

The problem with gallery or sandwich adapter oil temp is that the oil has already been conditioned by the factory (or aftermarket) oil cooler and squeezed by the pump. Some senders also will have higher error as pressure is applied. Track guys will typically measure oil temp at a couple of locations, if possible, but ALWAYS at the sump where you see the temp of the oil that is going into the engine.
