Sheetmetal floors? The aluminum pieces are in there but I won't be doing any real assy inside or with the motor until after I get the chassis back when the body man is done with it.

I haven't posted for a bit while I went on vacation back home to Boston.... of course I went back to the "mothership" to see the boys... Sat down with them and discussed what I have seen and run into during the build... also discovered several changes and updates...they were nice enough bring my kit up to date... thanks!

Got back the other day and with the new parts and pieces I was able to get a lot done yesterday... I also took 3 more days off from work to help get myself back on track.

The biggest issue I was trying to resolve on how to get all the panels to stay fixed in place - but able to take off quickly - but also be able to be installed in a very repeatable position.. THis is important since it will ensure that when the painter is taking panels off and on he doesn't waste time ($$$$) trying to fix everything while he adjusting gaps - and should make everything line right up when the Chassis and Body come back together for final assy.

So last night I finished the whole front of the truck to include the hood hinge is now 100% installed and functional. - I will be moving on to the back of the truck today and then hopefully the doors tomorrow.

THe biggest thing to pay attention to if you are doing fenders - are to ensure the running boards are placed "correctly" and are even.. the rear fenders have some flex to them so you can change narrow or open the wheel opening and change the look of the truck a bit... You also don't want the fenders sticking out beyond the bed (at least I didn't)… It is all connected and to ensure the front fender lands up against the radiator surround and EVEN take some patients! My running boards were about 1/4-1/2 inch off and it messed up the entire front end!

So once I got that all done and remounted - basically the entire day.... I PUT RIVNUTS ON EVERY PANEL.... LOL! This should lock everything down and take away the variability and make removing and installing panels way easier!

So it doesn't look like much... but the front is ready to go to paint!

Back at again full steam ahead... didn't get as much done I wanted... but it's progress..

Tailgate is now on and functioning...make SURE you start at the back of the Truck when doing the panels!! I had my bed sides too far forward so when I put the rear roll pan on it hit the driver's side gas tank strap mount... and since that would require me to re do all the fitting I did to the front of the truck.... yep.... cut that dude off... I will make a custom mount..lol..

Got the bed floor in and modified it for the wheel tubs and the roll bar legs... came out pretty good I think.

Tomorrow... DOORS! … this should be fun

welds still need to be cleaned up some... but this shows the bars going through the floor pretty good...

In your opinion, you do not have to have the weight of the truck on the wheels and suspension to fit all the panels. The frame should not move, or flex, so you feel comfortable with this procedure? The engine is in, and that is probably necessary.
Hopefully will have mine in 3 weeks.
    Keep up the good comments.

your concern is not warranted.. the suspension and engine will not effect the panels at all. As with all FFR cars the body is a "shell" and not loaded.. The Chassis is soooo stiff that there will be more movement from opening and closing the doors than the chassis causing any issue to the body. The engine is only in so I can fit the air scoop... otherwise I would have not placed it in there. It just isn't a thing...no worries.

other news... spent ALL day doing one door...let just say I sure wish I had "beta" directions.... lol... actually Jim and Tony have been great! and have come to the rescue more than a time or 2... so you will have to wait until the week for at least 1 door shot...good news... 2nd door should technically be easier!

Are you finding that the photo album is helping? I should be getting my lower control arms this week and I should be able to get the front and rear suspension all buttoned up.

Pretty good weekend all around... got both doors mounted and functioning... Tail gate is all in and chain/hooks installed.... I did run into an issue with the tail gate U-bolts and the bed side pockets... they kinda occupy the same space... I ended up notching the pockets... so it all works...

Also welded the wheel tubs and installed the dash and drilled for gauges … wash off the truck.. I have 1 or 2 things to get done and then she's off to paint.

Eric, your front tires look real close to the fenders. Maybe optical illusion. What size are wheels and tires, or are they temporary?
Or, is it your front shocks/springs are not adjusted yet?
    Keep up the great posts.

So these are shop wheels and tires off a jeep... the truck needs 26 diameter tires... these are WAY bigger... won't be an issue with the correct size tires and ride height set

Working through the week on it after work trying to get it done!!

Important tip... when you are installing the windows and the door latches are installed... make sure you don't close both doors with the windows up!!! lol.... had to climb through the front windshield opening to open the doors..

anyway... both windows in … door handles in... need to trim for window seals now...

FOr the handles... FFR provides a template for installation... I ended up using another measurement since the edge of the door will change after body work ( the door gaps are way roughed in).... ended up perfect... 29 .5 inches from the top hinge - check it out.

Air scoop installed … no going back now Still some trimming to do and some centering... but the hood opens and closes .. now have to notch it for the linkage and open up the hole for the painter.

Are you going to leave the rear links open or are they going to be enclosed with a top plate?

Well.... get ready... here we go... final assy. … Picked up everything from powder coat.... all the parts are all pre-positioned and assembled ready to go on...

In case you don't have a trailer the chassis will fit in the back of a pick-up.... you just need to think outside the "box" a bit:

really happy with the way the wheels turned out as well...

should have some build up pics tomorrow!!!

    Day 3 and 4 complete of re-assembly

Brakes are 100% complete and ready to bleed.
Fuel system has been wired and is about 50% complete
    Wiring is about 70% complete
    Electric steering is all in

All in all moving right along... I need to get some parts to really make some progress... battery, distributor, exhaust , ac compressor, shifter...

anyway... looks pretty cool... I am digging the rims and tires

Let me know how difficult it was to get the hard fuel filler tube installed? I found it to be challenging.

Everything looks great. I do like the wheel set-up you're running.

I'm back on the road for the next couple days, but should have a running go-kart very shortly. Though i expect you to pass me on progress given it's not your first kit!

Another weekend done... coming right along.... really close to getting it started and finishing up the complete roller.... Driver's side floor is all in and rear waterfall … more wiring complete, exhaust has been completely re-done since the 2 inch exhaust was not up to the task.. so 2 1/2 custom pipe all done... had to redo the AC unit and tunnel since they seemed to occupy the same spot.... so notched the tranny cover and moved the AC unit a little... should work great.... more parts needed really to get much else done... so I have ordered what I think is the balance of parts needed to get this done.... hopefully in the next 2 weeks... she should be close to finished....

    anyway...

Lots of progress this weekend... next weekend it should be quite a bit louder at my house with the first start.... All that is left is :

    1. put fluids in
    2. bleed brakes
    3. Install Radiator
    4. install 2 chassis grounds

in the last 2 days - I got the heater lines installed, NOS kit installed, floors in, shifter in, dizzy installed, made spark plug wires, horns installed and ran front harness, installed belt and routed AC lines (need to buy crimper). As I type it it is a lot of little work but to look at not much has changed in the big picture...

I bought this one and it worked like a champ. Used 80Ftlbs on the nut and just clampled it in the vice.

with regard to the 29.5" measurement you used for the door latch, did you just hold the tape measure against the hinge? and is 29.5" to the first screw hole, or the center of the handle template?

Just put the template on the edge of the door up against the belt line. The square edge goes against the edge of the door. I would fit the door before cutting the holes for the handle.

Why do you need a measurement?

So my OCD... if you do it that way and then you do the gaps on the door... I had to sand down the latch side on both...ultimately depending on how much "gap" you leave before the body guys does his thing... you could end up with one handle closer to the edge.. where if you measure it from the front of the door at the hinge... that point will never change relative to any gaps that get trimmed.... probably over thinking it... but I am also the guy running from one side of the car to other trying to see both side at the same time
