I wouldn’t say that most narrow the rear. I’m using an 02 GT which is the widest of the lot. Will save me adding spacers like some have had to

But seriously it depends on the kind of wheel you want and the offsets available

On this chassis narrowing the rear gets you into other problems. Shock mounts, caliper clearance to body, etc. Unless you plan to run less back space on 15" wheels or something similar.

When you say narrowing the rear most hot rodders will probably have visions of cutting the tubes and installing custom length axles. If that's what you mean then no I don't think you want to go there.

If you're trying to get 14" wide tires under the rear fenders then you will need to narrow the axle, modify the chassis, and install tubs. That's a lot of work. If 11" wide tires will work for you stay with the Mustang width.

I've never seen anyone use a rear end with a width that's narrower than the common 59.25", but some have used a 62.5" width that requires more wheel offset and yields a wheel with no dish to it, like you see on most new cars these days.

The rear wheels sold by FFR have a 6 inch backspace that's about 1.5 inches greater than a real '33 ford would use, with the standard 56" rear end width. My car has a real Ford frame width of 44 inches. With a 4.5 inch backspace, I get a generous 1-1/4" clearance between the tires and the frame. A 6 inch back space would not work at all. If the body of the FFR '33 is about 3 inches wider than a real '33, then the backspacing difference doesn't make sense, since the rear axle width is 3.25 inches wider. I've asked, but never got anyone to accurately measure the width of the FFR body around the rear wheels.
