    How much aluminum

Does anyone know about how much aluminum is included in the mk4 ?

I found a place that would anodize it for about a nickle a square inch or about $7. a foot. It sounds prety reasonable.

    Thanks,
    Jim

Keep in mind that decorative anodize is not a durable surface - it's easily scratched. You sure wouldn't want to do it to parts that aren't seen.

I can't imagine that the panels don't have scratches on them to start with and anodize will not fix that.

I had all my aluminum panels powder coated both sides - total cost was around $400.

It should be more durable than powder coating.

At least that is what I thought.

More important than durability is that it is not repairable. Also, any sanding you do on the aluminum will really show when anodized.

Get a sample piece done and see how it works. Do it your way.

If you mean all the aluminum panels, it would probably amount to around 50 sq ft.

WHAT???... I need the address of this powder coat guy. Shipping to and from Canada, and coating at $400US is still a tonne cheaper than my local shop.
I'm reminded of a scene from the movie Dances With Wolves. "Good trade".

I’m in Ontario, Canada and paid about 400 cdn to get my panels powder coated here. Huge price discrepancies depending on who you get a quote from.
