I have mine under but I think it was a mistake. If you ever need to remove the dash to access wiring etc it will be easier if the dash is on top.

Trying not to hijack the thread, but I'm about a week away from dropping the body myself and wondered about this too. Also, are folks putting rivnuts in the horizontal tube to attach the dash?
I am using rivnuts to install my dash. However, it is an R model and the dash is in two pieces.
