    Cooling fan temp start

    Hello,

    I am checking the cooling fan today. If I understand this corectly, fan should start when certain temperature is reached.
    I have the fan wired like this.
    [url=https://flic.kr/p/226NQZj]

    I believe it should start automatically. I didn't install any manual switch.

    My sensor (two wires) looks like this.
    [url=https://flic.kr/p/23LUZqY]

    I could observe the gauge getting up 105 Celsius (so I stopped there and asking now
    No fan spinning.

    My temp sensor for the fan only had one connection what happens when you ground the green fan sensor wire close to the fan

    Are you using an efi to control the fan

    My fan would run without the key turn on

    Hi Itcheif.
    Thanks for the feedback. I turned the key (not started) and grounded the sensor, NO fan turning. I aslo checked the fuse, OK.

    Do I need to have the car running to check the fan?
    I wouldn't think so.

    Thanks.

    You have to have a fan sensor, and a gauge sensor. That looks like a gauge sensor?

    Hm, so I need one sensor for the gauge and one for the fan to turn?

    Dang, I found one more sensor in my box. Single wire. I guess that needs to be hooked up someplace. I see one more green wire labeled fan switch...duh! I need to find place in manifold to install it.

    Now I feel stupid.
    Thanks

    The two wire temp sensor is for the gauge and the single wire sensor is for the fan

    I didn’t catch the two wire part until after my first post

    Sorry

    No worries. I found the single green wire in sending unit bundle, grounded and the fan is running.

    Its running even with the key removed. I thinking by design.

    The fan isn't always wired that way, it just means the fan relay is wired to an always hot, un-switched source, for power. Personally, I like that the fan runs on for a few minutes after stopping, but many builders prefer it not to.

    So what temp does the fan turn on, and turn off, now you have the proper sensor?

    It is labeled 180 degrees. I will mess with tomorrow.

    I had to replace my thermostat housing with one that has a threaded port for the fan switch, it also turns off when i turn the ignition off.

    Right, I checked and I don't have the thread either. I found a hole in manifold that I can use instead.

    Make sure you are putting in a place to get the correct temp. When you need it or it will overheat

    Right, I started questioning myself. I can see coolant inside of it. But still called and sent pic to Mike Forte. Since they build the engine.

    Thanks.

    My sensor is in the manifold next to distributor. Turned on at 185F, shuts off at 163F. Temp actually rises a bit after shutting off to 201F. Fan runs about 20 mins after shutting off.
