    Engine oil temp gauge

Load your weapons and prepare to fire! I have done some searches and haven’t been able to answer my question so I’m counting on you guys. I am considering not installing the engine oil temp gauge. I have a blank dash and am going custom and minimalist on layout. I have owned a lot of vehicles of all types over the years. I have never had an engine oil temp readout that I can remember except in semis. I am not planning on entering any endurance races so is it needed?
MkIV complete kit #9259, Coyote, TKO600, IRS, Wilwoods x 4, many parts from Breeze, Forte, Russ's Garage and North Racecars
17" Bullit style wheels, custom Kirkey seats, mid shift conversion, drop trunk, KRC power steering, Forte Hyd. clutch and slave, manual brakes
overall build plan: build it to drive, not polish and black it out wherever possible, paint will be some shade of dark cherry

    Nope.

It would only serve as a reminder that your oil is still cold.

HaHa. That’s pretty much what I thought after researching Coyote oil temps. The only time the gauge reads is after a hot motor has been shut off and sat. I didn’t realize till after I posted this that it is in the wrong section. I don’t see how to move it.

I like having one because it makes me wait long enough to be sure the engine is warm. Otherwise I just start grinning too soon since I jumped on those 450 ponies before they were ready. Need one? Probably not. But my next build gets one as does my race car.

Oil is heated by rpm's. If you're going to be running high rpm's for extended periods of time, then an oil temp gauge is important. Otherwise it will be pretty much the same temp as the water. Unless you're road racing, you really don't need an oil temp gauge.
