how to Bolt on harness which has clips

I'll be using a harness that has clips to connect to a harness bar over my shoulders. I'm looking into bolting on my lap portion of the belt. To the frame. I'm wanting to use the 1/2" bolts that the Simpson harness used.
Take a look at the photo please. Will this be an acceptable way to bolt on? I don't think closing the clasp will help, as it's thin metal.

I'm thinking it's okay to bolt to the frame.

Just our opinion. Either change the mounting to coincide with the harness or change the harness to the proper type for the mounts already in the car. .

Hi Dave,

I'll second, third, and x a billion what 427 just said. I know from 30 years of rock climbing that an open anchor like you're showing will open up unexpectedly and at the worst possible moment under a dynamic load. Please match the harness to the anchor or vice versa.

I hear your points, and am not trying to dispute, but if the thin clasp was closed, that would be okay? I would have thought a much thicker bolt than the eye bolt I'm clipping my shoulder portion on would have been safer. That little pin holding the clasp closed looks like it would be the weak point.

I bought this harness to clip in to the shoulder only, but all 5 points are clips.

I guess I don't know better, so this is why I ask. Thank you.

Is there a vendor that I can just purchase 2" bolt end straps from? I'll check with my harness mfg too.

That type of mounting uses a high strength eye bolt specifically designed for that purpose. Using a cap screw (as you show in your photo) is a recipe for disaster. Either change the mounting bracket on the belt if possible, or use the proper eye bolt, or purchase a harness system that is designed to be bolted on with a cap screw (bolt in common lingo). This is a safety safety system -- don't be "that guy".

I have 4 of the bolt ons you need. On the Gen 3 Coupe, the shoulder belts wrap around the roll bar behind the seat so I don't need the bolt ons. PM me your address and I'll send them right out.

I'll be using these recommended schroth products as well as the bolt on graciously offered by 65 Cobra dude. Some of the clips are sewn into the harness so the schroth items will help.

Thanks to 65 Cobra Dude for sending the bolt on clips. Used along side the bolt on brackets, I think I'm in good shape. Bolt on brackets will be used for the lap belts as the clips are sewn into the harness. The bolt clips will be used on the passenger shoulder harness and the center belts. DS safety harness will use the clips for the shoulder straps, the bolt on brackets for the lap belts and the bolt clip for the center belt.

Don't forget to install the cotter pins in the harness brackets once installed.
