Post MKII Parking Brake cables/parts needed

    Hi all,

I am trying to piece together the parts for the parking brake on my MKII Roadster. I inherited this project with not much documentation so trying to figure it out - any help will be appreciated.

Here is what I know (I think): Donor car was an 89 GT. I have the handbrake assembly from that car. It appears my uncle upgraded the rear brakes to discs, so assuming they are 93 Cobra calipers? Here are some pics:

Does anyone know what parts I need to make this work?

Note: still 4 lug but I will upgrade this to 5 lug at some point. Not sure if that makes any difference.

I’m no expert on this, but because it’s still 4 lug, wondering if you have Thunderbird Turbo Coupe brakes. That was a popular choice in the Mark II day for rear discs. My buddy has them on his, I’ll ping him and see if his setup looks the same as yours...
One of the last Mark II's, FFR complete date 5/8/04, delivery date 5/23/04, donor-'93 Mustang GT. Yes, that is me in my Avatar. Paint done by Da Bat! It looks killer! Drive it like you stole it...

Pretty sure any parking brake cables from 87-93 mustangs will work. Note cables pass under the 4 inch tube to make up the length.

I think GaleK is correct. Either t-bird or Lincoln calipers. But the good news is the park cable attachment looks the same as the Mustang calipers. thought I had a pic of the cables I use w/ a # but can't find it. I agree w/ Mike though, 87-93 Mustang

The end w/ the spring goes to the caliper
    Do you have this cable?

Not any cables will work, the cables are for a FOX with Discs in the rear, that doesn't exist except for 93 cobra, which will only work on a 93 car. For this situation the cables at the bottom of the page will work, and have on thousands of FFR cars. HTH, Richard.

Great - thanks for the help.

One more question.....will these calipers still work when I convert to 5-lug axles? Do you know what rotor I will need to get?

if your rotors are 10.25 inch diameter, they are 99.99% likey to be the 1988-89 turbo t bird rear discs. This was a popular rear disc conversion in the MK2 days. I still use them on 2 of my fox mustangs.

New rotors in a five lug pattern are not available to my knowledge.

To convert your rotors to 5 lug, the rotors will need to be re-drilled for the 5 lug pattern. Your 4 lug pattern is 4 x 4.25, and the 5 lug pattern is 5 x 4.5, So one hole needs to be ovalized, to compensate for the increased 1/4 inch of lug pattern, and the other 4 can be drilled without hitting any of the remaining original 4-lug holes.

New, redrilled rotors are available from :

    Breeze, http://www.breezeautomotive.com/deta...d=353&cat_id=1, and also

OK, one more point of clarification on the cables. I did determine in fact that the calipers are from a 88-89 T-Bird Turbo Coupe from measuring the size of the rotors (10.25"). Are you all saying I can use these cables and they will work for my application?

Cables from a Tbird may be too long. Use the ones for a 93 Mustang Cobra with rear discs.

    Richard oben has them, http://www.northracecars.com/Brakes.html,

No those won't work, they are for a drum not a disc set up. 93 cables on work on 93 cobra mustangs or 93 mustangs. HTH, Richard.
