Love me some Mazda. Drove a Gen 2 Miata (2000) for 12 years. Pure simple tough basic sports car. Yes, underpowered, especially by Cobra standards, but the formula of light weight and fantastic handling allows them to best many cars well above their weight and hp class on a road course or autocross track. They are highly respected in most racing circles as a very capable car that can be raced competitively on a budget.
Hats off to Mazda for staying the course and producing fun to drive cars when so many car manufacturers are pumping out appliances that couldn’t manage a high g corner even attached to an anchor and chain.
On any given weekend more Mazda’s are raced than any other marquee, followed closely by Porsche.
