Trouble using Compound-302 Stainless Steel Cleaner

I have a set of Gas-n Go side pipes that I just applied Compound 302 to. I am coming away with a very cloudy finish and I am not sure what I am doing wrong. From what I have read from everyone else this product is very simple to use.

What I did:

1. Applied product in small area.
2. Let product sit between 1-3 minutes.
3. Went over pipes (in direction of grain) with 0000 steel wool.
4. Rinsed off product with a mix of water and dish soap.
5. Rinsed off pipe with water out of the hose.

I went back in a small area and have twice put more product on, let it sit say 3 minutes and rinsed again. Although it seemed to help (marginally) I am still coming away with a cloudy finish.

What am I doing wrong?

I think the problem may be with the steel wool you are using putting fine scratches in the polished SS. You could try to buff out the cloudy spots with some Autosol and see if that bring the shine back? If not, time for power tools, a buffer has always worked for me. Good Luck Scott

Not to worry, some easy things you can do to remedy the situation:

1.) Always drive in the same direction so the people that see the unpolished side will think that is how it is supposed to be.
2.) Polish the now unpolished side.
3.) You see what I did there, I made this step 3, Go at the polished side with some of that steel wool and make it a match to the other side.

A little metal polish will fix it up like new.

Why are you using steel wool?

I use Blue Magic Metal Polish Cream along with a couple micro fiber towels and my Gas-N's are back to like new in about 1/2 hour.

x3 or whatever. No steel wool should be used. Unlike a lot of metal polish compounds, Compound 302 is a chemical reaction. Doesn't require abrasion, and sounds like you dulled the finish. The good news is the SS can be polished back to a mirror finish.
