    Coyote Fitment Question

    All,

I am running my fuel/return lines for my Coyote install. I opted to use 3/8" hard stainless lines from the rear to the engine compartment.

I have not yet had a chance to do a initial engine fit. I am hppng I could get some feedback on my planned placement of the ends of the 3/8" stainless lines within the engine compartment.

I am planning to terminate them (i.e. transition to flex lines) on the diagonal support channel on the PS side of the compartment.

Here is a pic (hopefully it posts).

Let me know if there are any fitment concerns and/or any concerns with the proximity to the PS header.

    Thanks in advance,

    Hey Mark

I just completed some work on my lines today. I don't have my Coyote yet but I followed as many build threads as I could. Here's a pic of where I stand today with my lines:

Also, looks like we have the exact same name

Awesome. Thanks for the prompt feedback. I wanted to route/secure them to the channel and not the sheetmetal, so I wanted to make sure I had the room.

I do like your option lewma.

Anyone have a suggestions on the coupling option to mate to the 3/8” line.

I did mic. The tube OD today to find the tube is a bit out of round.

    Thanks

Like others have said, the location for terminating the SS lines will be fine. There's a ton of room behind the Coyote for your fuel pressure regulator. I hear a lot of people talk about "test fitting" their Coyote engines. Maybe, only if you're deviating from the hundreds of Coyote/MkIV builds since 2011. Although its tight, It fits fine. Put it in, bolt it down and turn to the next page in the manual.
As for the coupling option, use a AN fitting with compression fitting for the SS line connection. This will allow an easy transition to the braided SS flex hose and it will look smart. Same for the return line.

If you're going to be following the edwardb (and others) model for Coyote power wiring with battery forward, be aware that you'll be running a wiring loom down this diagonal member. If you're running straight tube headers, the loom will want to run all the way down. If you're running J-pipes, the loom will jump down off the diagonal member about halfway down to run on the inside of the 4" tube, engine side of the motor mount. Paul's excellent pictures in this post show the issue: https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/show...l=1#post231732

I do follow-up Paul's build thread closely. Good point and reference to his photo on the power harness. Answers my question regarding clearance in that area. As for power, I am currently planning on mounting my battery in the trunk. I will need to leave room for the starter wiring though. Thanks again.

Dave, thanks for confirming. Good point on the test fit. By fit I meant all for the connections etc. Although I like you idea is just bolting it in a moving on ... (I need to do ore of that )

Let me know if you have any suggested sources for the an fittings and connections.

I have purchased much of my fuel line here. Very good quality and prices are decent.

These are the fittings I've used for direct connection to 3/8-inch SS fuel lines. https://www.breezeautomotive.com/det...p?prod_id=1073. These are very high quality Ham-Let Stainless Steel 316 Let-Lok compression fittings, 3/8" OD Tube to 06AN Male. No flare needed. I've found them elsewhere occasionally (eBay, Amazon, etc.) but Mark has them and they work perfectly.

BTW, agree with others the location you have those fuel lines coming into the engine compartment is fine with the Coyote. Attaching them to the 3/4-inch tube is fine. But attaching them to the sheet metal is fine too. It's plenty strong and rigid enough. Another one of those "don't overthink it" moments.

Paul, thanks for the lead on the hardware and the feedback.

My SS tubing is a bit out of round (perhaps from straitening from the coil). Did you see that with your tubing and can the compression fitting compensate for this (some) ?

    Thanks again,

    Mark

No, I haven't seen that with my tubing. I'm able to get it in straight lengths, so no damage there. Right from the Let-Lok instructions:

"TUBE O.D. TOLERANCES 3/16” - 1 1/4” ± 0.005” The ovality of twice the O.D. tolerance is not suitable for LET-LOK® fittings. The tube must be reasonably round."

Pretty unlikely you'd see .010" out of round (as listed, twice the O.D. tolerance) so using your tubing with these fittings isn't recommended by the mfg. Not sure what to tell you. I suspect out of round is going to be a challenge with most fittings.

Yeah, I put my verniers on it and I'm seeing about +/- 0.02" variation in diameter at least. Seems to be pretty consistent (consistently out) over the length of the tube.

Looks like I'll need to think about some other options.

    I appreciate the detailed feedback.

You could flair the end of the SS line and use a flair to AN fitting to make the transition from hard to flex line.

    Talking

    Thanks for the suggestion Dave.

While contemplating my options, I tried something that I did with me 3/16 SS line and it worked.

I have the Eastwood Flaring tool. I took the dies for the 3/8" tube, found the high side of the tube clocked is within the dies (so the high side is perpendicular to the parting line) and clamped REALLY hard.

Was able to get the tubing end from >+/- .025" out to round to within .005"
