    New Dog Name

My wife an I are getting ready to adopt a new dog, however, we are having trouble coming up with a name. The dog is a male pit bull Boston terrier mix that we will probably rescue tonight. Out last dog we adopted in college when he was a puppy and we struggled with a name for that dog as well. He pranced around everywhere, so I suggested Elton as a joke and my wife and roommate loved it. I got stuck with a 8 lbs. chihuahua mix named Elton and lost my man card. I don't want to go down that path again so I need to come up with a name that my wife likes that I also like. I want something auto related or mechanical this time but all my ideas keep getting shot down by my wife. Please help me come up with something my wife is good with. Her top two right now are Pop Tart and Oliver. Please help me avoid Pop Tart.

    List of Maybes:

    Otto
    Shelby
    Sprocket
    Drift
    Apex
Steel(partially because my dad's dog is named Blue and my wife wants to yell out Blue Steel)
    Brock
    Miles

    Rejected by wife:
    Axle
    Clutch
    Wheel/Wheelie
    Piston
    Wrench
    Torque
    Bolt
    Carbon
    Turbo
    Rivet
    Carb
    Ratchet
    Rubber
    NYF AIM

Don't rush it - it'll come to you, as "Elton" did before.

My one rule for naming a dog is that the name must pass what I call the "back porch test." Meaning, you have to be able to stand on the porch and call the dog in a stern and insistent manner (with the neighbors listening) and not have it sound too goofy. A friend of mine failed that test when he let his 5 year old daughter name their current dog.... so he has to yell "Num Num" all the time.

    Talk about losing your man-card.

Best of luck with the new member of the family!!!!
    Later,
    Chris

Stig is a good one, from where I sit.

But, I just named our new Chocolate Lab pups Jet and Bear, so what do I know.

    Good luck!

    Regards,

    Steve

I subscribe to the theory of happy wife, happy life. That being said, Oliver is the lesser of two evils.

Man card is already gone (as with most of us I'm sure) so might as well earn some brownie points.

Some awesome suggestions, thanks everyone. Some of these had me cracking up and others I am going to suggest to my wife with my fingers crossed. “Some say that there are seventeen different reasons why he’s banned from the North Hampton branch of Little Chef, and that his favourite airline pilot is Mark Webber.. mine too actually. All we know is he’s called the Stig.". Unfortunately we did not get the dog I wanted last night. His foster parents decided to keep him and I guess they have first right to adoption, which seems fair but sucks since I wanted to dog and would have given it a great home. The search continues, I am sure I can find another great dog in need of a good home.

Sorry you didn’t get the dog. There are lots available through shelters though. I always
liked this famous shelter guy’s name. https://youtu.be/G_07nPqaR7M
