    Best starter for a 408 10:1 stroker??

I went to start the car last night and I heard a loud clunk and a bunch of white smoke come up from under the hood. I'm thinking the only thing next can possibly be is the starter. My existing one is an 18 yr. old mini starter. Does flywheel teeth (157 vs. 164) make a difference in starter selection? I do have a 157 tooth flywheel. Thanks guys!--Mike

Go to Autozone or Advance and get a late model 5.0 starter. The solenoid is on the starter. It's a high torque mini-starter with a lifetime warranty.

Everything I read says to get an automatic starter because of the 157 tooth flywheel. Is this correct?

I love my MSD Dynaforce starter. It’s tiny, indexable, looks great, and has absolutely no issue rolling over my 461w stroker. The down fall is it’s kinda pricy. But then it’s a great piece that looks and works like it costs $300.

The starter must match your Flywheel teeth.

I agree, you won't need more than this. I don't know the full range of Mustang model years that work, but I can tell you for certain that the OEM Ford starter for a 94-95 Mustang GT is the PMGR (permanent magnet, gear reduction) starter you want. It will work with your 157 tooth flywheel.

That looks like the right one, provided its designed for a Manual trans. Automatic has a different flexplate tooth count, I think.
