    Engine Builders: Question For You

    Hi Guys,

    As you may know I am rebuilding my 87 302. It is the factory rotating assembly and I am using all STD size bearings. After lots of research, I decided to go with Clevite CB-634P rod bearings. As I was double checking clearances tonight, I noticed that these rod bearings have a hole in them for oil. The odd thing is that the connecting rods have no holes in them for these to line up with. It seems that every mustang guy uses these as well, but I just want to make sure this wont cause a problem.

    I just checked two different #s I happen to have on hand and see the same thing. Who knows why.

    So I guess they don’t cause a problem. I’m sure that hole fills with oil

    Some rods have a small hole in them that is on the rod end that faced toward the piston. The hole should be aligned with this small hole in the rod if there is one. Otherwise the orientation isn’t critical. If only one bearing half has a hole I would put it on the rod and not the cap so that that the hole is on the leading edge when the rod is installed.

    A full floating pin will have a drilled rod so that oil can flow to the pin.

    UPDATE
    I called Clevite. It’s fine. They were there for when fords did have oil holes in the rods
