Yes, it needs to be trimmed to fit. The tubing should be about 4" long on the driver's side so that the trimmed cable remains covered throughout it's entire cycle of travel. Just don't cut it too short to not engage the driver's wheel box. I'd allow about an inch of length past the point where the cable is furthest toward the passenger side of the car.
