The hub studs to replace the originals do not have the same flat area to avoid interfering with the rubber piece between the two sections of the hub. Do people normally grind a flat for clearance?

Saw this question before, but wasn't sure what you were talking about. Now I think I get it. At the inside edges, the heads of the replacement studs end up pretty close to the bearing seal. Right? Short answer. No, I've done this IRS twice and haven't ground the replacement studs. They end up close but not touching or interfering. On the other hand, if you're worried about it or FF is supplying a different part with larger heads than what I received, touch them on a grinder or sander to put a small flat there. Then obviously just orient them that way when they're installed.

Pics help. Yea, that's what mine looked like too. But when pulled in, they are close but don't touch. But knock 'em down if you like. Certainly doesn't hurt anything. Congrats on sweating the small stuff. I like it.
