Looking for pictures of real Cobra's engine compartment

    Hi Guys,

Where is a good place to find pictures of engine compartments of the original Cobras? I just want to get some ideas for making mine look more vintage. When I do a search on google I'm not sure if what I'm looking at is authentic original or a recreation.

    Thanks!

    Yama-Bro,

type "Shelby cobra engine compartment" in Google [images] and then pick out the ones that match your build - 289 or 427, they were completely different.

If the picture has too much chrome, it's probably not "original", if it has a Coyote, it's definitively not "original". Look for the generator regulator mounted on the firewall along with the wiring connection / fuse blocks, those were "original" builds.

    If it's too clean-n-shiny, it's not real . . .

Go to the shelby museum open house on sept 1 in boulder co. There will be originals in the parking lot and you can take all the photos you want.

The cars inside the museum will be roped off and close up access is not allowed, but those outside usually have the owners nearby and are very willing to let you take the photos and ask anything you want to know.

Any photo credited to Dave Friedman is an original.

Man, I've really wanted to go to that place for several years. That sounds like the perfect weekend to go. I think I have other things going on...like my 8 year olds bday party. Thanks for the heads up though.

289/small block, but I'm interested in seeing the differences.

Probably leaning more towards the competition side, but not completely sure. I'm not necessarily going for a dead on recreation, just want to make it look a little more vintage under the hood. If there are elements from the street and comp versions, I'd be ok with it.

I'm sort of a Cobra stalker.... so here you go......

CSX2350 is a WI car, so I also have a bunch of pics, but won't share them as you already have a few above.

    Here's CSX2323, Gurney's Targa Florio car....

Look up the FFR 289 built by Erik Treves called Black Mamba. That’s about as true a reproduction of an original as you will find. I looked at that build and compared it to some photos from a book on Cobras that I had borrowed from a friend. Black Mamba is dead on.

Thanks for the pics! I really, really, like those webers. I just wish they were cheaper.

Gumball, your car is one of my favs. I found your old list of upgrades from a post from years ago. I went thru it and marked the ones I am planning to do. Getting some ideas. I also ran into your post about making a degas tank. I may give that a try.

Staversi, I'll do some looking for the black mamba.

Wow! Erik, that's amazing work. I'm not sure how I missed that one. I've been a background reader on this site for years. I just don't spend a lot of time in the 289 forum. It kind of makes me wish I ordered one of those instead. I read thru your whole build thread. I definitely got some ideas. Thanks! One question...do you still have the car? I noticed you built several. I wasn't sure if you keep them all or cycled thru them.
