    Ford 302 Alternator wiring

I’m at the point of wiring up my alternator and need some assistance. My Roadster has a ford 302 with a T5 WC, the wiring harness was purchased from Breeze Automotive. My Roadster has been started and ran without the alternater connected.

My alternater has three wires exiting the housing, 2 larger gauge wires (think they are for the stater and batter) and one smaller gauge (think this one is for field). Please gently correct 8FA553FE-1AB5-4FF5-ABEE-9300F57D9F85.jpg9A304A98-44AA-41B7-AB54-827539AB206E.jpgme if I’m wrong.

There is also a three connector plug.

My Roadster wiring harness has two wires coming from the car. One is stamped (exciter) and the other is for the battery.

My Question: How do I wire my alternater for proper operation without causing damage to my project?

If you have a 3G alternator this may help.

The description of the alternator makes me think it's a Ford 2G alternator.

See if this makes sense compared to what you actually see:

I think it's a lot easier to get all that working + checked out before the body goes on.

2G alternators usually have the fan on the outside of the case and 3G on have it internally. Once you know what you have you can get proper wiring information.

Older versions of the Ron Francis harness were configured like the picture below:

Note that all three red wires in the picture above originated from a single Alternator Feed wire connected to the starter solenoid, and that the smaller connector has two wires (the second is connected to the ACC post on the ignition switch). If the connector shown above looks like what you've got, perhaps the wiring diagram on page 15 here http://www.ronfrancis.com/images/FFR06-INST.pdf will help.
