    Boss 351 Block Question

Anyone know if the Boss 351 block mounts just like the older 351W block to the provided FFR mounts? Any clearance issues of any kind? I think I'm going with a 427 stroker, and seems like there are some pretty good deals on Ford Performance long blocks. Thanks!

I have the Ford Racing 427W stroker which is based on the 351W Boss block. It bolted right up with the FFR provided engine mounts so I would say YES.

Entry level for the 427. 450HP and a little over 500 torque.

One other question on this. I'm looking at the Ford Performance 427 x-Head crate engine. Says the X-Heads exhaust ports are raised 5/8" and may require custom headers. Anyone have any experience with this and if the FFR headers will fit with no issues?

I have an x427 in my car. I am not a total gear head but this is what I think. I could and probably am wrong.

x-427 is discontinued. It has oem exhaust and intake locations. If you can find one it should work for you.

z-427 is discontinued. The exhaust ports are raised on this engine and could cause you some fitment problems.

Ford Performance now sells a Z2-427 and the intake and exhaust are in oem locations. This may work for you.

You would have to talk to someone knowledgeable about the oil pan on the Z2-427 to see if the pan depth is okay. I had to change my pan because it was a rear sump and hung below the frame.
Also because of the headers (not the factory 4 tube headers) and j pipes on my car to accommodate fuel injection some modification was required on the driver side foot box to allow for the headers. If you ran the regular 4 tube headers the box may not need modification.

I've got the Z427 with the Z304 raised port heads and I had to have custom headers made. As for my rear sump it is level with my frame.

I've got the discontinued 427X. Gas-N Stainless 4 tube 351 headers work fine with ports in oem location. Bought a rear sump engine due to availability, then swapped pan with a 7.5" Canton kit from Breeze, sits level with bottom of frame. If you can still get one of these, get it.

I also have the X-heads with the stock front sump and have no major fitment issues. I am using the FFR exhaust pipes and needed to add the Breeze spacers on the passenger side to lower the pipes a little but this probably varies with each build frame and body. I possibly could have corrected this without using spacers by adjusting/notching the engine mounts/frame tabs and slightly rotating the engine but using the spacers were a much easier fix.

I have the 427X as well. It’s Awesome! Probably the coolest thing I own. Like everyone sais fits in fine. The only slight challenge I’m expecting is that when I drive it around in gel coat before paint and bodywork, if I wait a bit and don’t cut the scoop hole, might have to get a different temporary air cleaner due to the slightly higher deck height. Tons of people have them so shouldn’t be an issue in general.

Thanks guys! Now it’s just a matter of finding one. I thought I had a bead on I one at my local Ford dealer, but they no longer have it. Trying a couple other places. If anyone knows of a new one, just let me know. I’ve read that you can’t use the z heads on the newer model because of the 5/8 raised exhaust port, unless you want to buy new headers.
