I'm filling my IRS with gear lube. It appears there's some type of thread sealant on both the fill and drain plugs. Should I put some type of sealant on the plugs when I reinstall and if so what does everyone use for this?20191029_184702.jpg

Yes, you can use Permatex High Temp 59214
They are pipe thread, you don't really need anything on them. They have no pressure on them so just snug them well, and it'll be OK.
I use Permatex thread sealant.
rich is correct, but I hate leaks. The down side of using sealant is that you need to clean the old sealant off each time.
on pipe thread I use teflon paste, if you do it up dry it will likely leak. I don't like teflon tape because little pieces can come off and get into bearings and plug off small oil passages.
