Mk IV clearance and speed bumps

    Hi guys,

Happy labor day weekend to everyone. I'm waiting on delivery hopefully this upcoming week and had a quick question. For a Mk IV with the standard FFR 17" Halibrand wheel & tire package, what's the clearance under the car in front of, between, and behind the axles? The reason i ask is that my street is getting repaved in the next month and we have some speed bumps and i'm hoping to discuss with the pavers how high and what shape the speed bumps will be such that this won't be an issue for the Mk IV. So i'm not so concerned with clearance to the differential (since the diff will rise with the tires as i go over the speed bump) but more clearance to the car in the areas either in front, between, or behind the axles. About how much clearance is there?

Thanks a lot, guys, and enjoy the weekend!

    Pete

That depends on where you set the ride height, anywhere from 3 3/4" to 4 1/2". The side pipes can sometimes be the lowest point. The size of the tires are irrelevant.

You should talk to the city or county roads department, the paver may not have any control on what they are doing. There may be a set size and shape in the codes for your area.

Found 3-5/8" will clear most bumps & 4" will pretty much clear the all. Have not bottomed out at 4". If you bottom will be mid frame or side pipes if you come off to fast. On mine the frame is the low part.

Thanks for the good info, guys - I appreciate it. That's better news than i had thought, so happy to hear it.
JP, yeah, we're fortunate in that our street has some say in the size of the bumps.
And Bear, that's great news that at 4 inches, things seem good to go.
    Enjoy the weekend, guys!
