Intercooler mesh vs FFR trunk kit

I've got the trunk kit but am not sure I want to vent the trunk. Is the gain in the car's usability worth losing a vent over the engine.

It's also an aesthetics question as the very aft panel has quite am obvious "cutout area" that might bother me down the road.

Any and all opinions welcome! Thanks

I have the trunk and did not open the center vent. I did add louvers to the humps and open up the side vents larger than the FFR screens. No over heating issues even on hot summer days. Photos attachedRear deck 2.JPGRear deck 1.JPG

Thanks for the input, very nice pix

Seeing it on a completed car helps. The center vent not being cut out doesn't look bad like I thought it would.

I have the trunk and did not cut mine out. What I did was cut a piece of black vinyl the shape of the vent and then placed the mesh and frame on top of the vinyl. This makes it look like there is a vent there when there isn't. My mesh and frames are powder coated orange and the black vinyl under it makes it look like an opening. Not sure the effect would be the same without the contrast. I looked for a good picture but didn't have one. I'll try to remember to take one some day and add it to this post.

Thanks Larry. I'd love to see a pic.

On a quick side note, is your trunk actually useable? Do you even use it?

It won't hold a set of golf clubs, but is definitely usable.

Definitely usable. With carefully chosen luggage two people could definitely pack for a long weekend in it. When just tooling around town, I keep the cover for the car back there. It makes the car much more practical although still far from a daily driver.

Here's a couple pictures of the installed trunk:

I added the trunk after the fact and decided to seal up the hole with a custom cut (my brother in law did it using a band saw) carbon fiber panel. Trunk was great. It fit a tool kit, the soft top, and has a bit of room to spare.

By not cutting out the vent in the engine over you won't lose any significant air flow. When my 818 was a topless S, I tied pieces of yarn to the vent screen and found that was no discernable flow either in or out at any speed. The lower section of the rear was open, but the upper section was not. I looked for the video but can't find it.
