Is the Coyote dipstick accurate when used with Moroso pan?

I saw a thread that pointed out that the Moroso pan holds more oil than the stock pan. This morning I poured all the factory motor oil back into the motor (I had saved it all in a brand new homer bucket). A few minutes later I pulled the dipstick and it shows a level that is at the top hole. Should I add more oil? What reference on the dipstick do most people use to know the level is correct or do they just eyeball that it should be a certain amount above the top hole?

I think the marks on the stock dipstick are OK. I looked at where the marks are in relation to the top of the oil pan while doing the swap. The top hole is a bit lower than the top of the oil pan and gasket and the rotating assembly. You don't want the oil any fuller than that. The fill numbers are kind of all over the place. Moroso lists the pan as 7.5 quarts. The Ford listed fill for a Coyote is 8 quarts. When I've done oil changes in #8674, it took 9 quarts to get to the top mark. I just drained the oil out of the new Gen 3 for my Coupe build, and like you described, put it in a clean 5 gallon bucket. It's showing over 8 quarts. Closer to 9. So who knows? I say fill yours to the top mark and call it good.

Use the markings on the dipstick. Although you have changed the oilpan, you have not changed the opening in the block where the dipstick goes in. So the dipstick will be in the same position regardless of the pan you are using. The markings will be the same distance below the rotating assembly. Use the markings as your guide as to the quantity of lubricant to add.

Thanks for the input guys. It's surprisingly satisfying to get to the point where I can just pour the oil back into the motor. Inching closer to that first start!
