    flywheel reccomendations

Disassembled a 1988 302 from the junk yard to go in a MK4 and it is now at the machine shop getting re-worked. Going to have a T5 tranny and I need recommendations for a flywheel. Also need a cam for street use - no racing just out having fun. I'm sure there will be a lot of ideas out there.

Stick with the factory flywheel for everyday street use - that way makes it a lot easier to match everything up when assembling your drivetrain.

A good street cam would be any of the FORD "lettered" cams (B, E or F) , I personally run an "E" cam in my [basically] stock 5.0. Good gas mileage, plenty of low end torque and is slightly weighted toward the exhaust timing so if later down the road you want to add "power-adders" like blower, turbo, etc., no need to swap to another cam. Factory roller lifters are good for the cams mentioned and are inexpensive. Roller rockers in the factory ratio will keep you from any piston to valve issues. Put stronger springs on it . . .

Different opinion here. I say go featherweight on the flywheel. It will transform an otherwise mild mannered street motor into something racy. Well worth any negatives. It will idle rougher, be more difficult to start off in 1st, and have a snappier rev. Yes it will be a bit unruly, but well worth it.

I have stock weight flywheel, with a B cam (B303). Go with that, an E303 or a Trickflow stage 1 cam. I believe you will need stronger valve springs.

I’m with Mike, go light! I’ve got light flywheels in both my Type 65 Coupe and my e36 M3 and they made them both more fun!
