Its Logano's fault.....#9524 BluePrint engine first start

Well with the Black Friday 25% off option sale and Joe Logano winning the championship sale. I couldn't resist ordering a MK4 kit. This will be
my third FFR, a MK2, 33 Hot Rod and now the MK4. I sold the MK2 a long time ago but still have the Hot Rod and I'm looking forward to building another car. Unfortunately FFR was already out of stock and some options I wanted to order to get the 25% off, but I feel pretty good with the deal I got on what they had in stock.

Yes, a base kit for $9900 was a good deal. I configured it and figured it several times. Good luck to the many many new builds that will be happening.

I got excited when the FedEx truck showed up, but was disappointed when only three of the four wheels made it on this truck. Not sure how one of the wheels and another box ended up in southern Ohio on a different truck, but the good news is its scheduled for Monday delivery. Not complaining just thought it was funny. Life is good and I get to laugh at silly things that we cant control...oh and I get to build another car. I pick my kit up in January so no big deal on a late wheel delivery. If it makes you feel any better, a friend of mine just ordered a pair of boots from Amazon. He got notification the order was coming in two packages.

I'm not married so I don't have a tree up. But I have all of my new parts in the spare bedroom, except for the engine. I'm still trying to figure how to get it in the house.

    Hey Bill,

Glad to see our engine! I'm also from Ohio. Salem Area. Small world. Not too many go with just our long block, opposed to the package. looking forward to seeing what you do to finish it off!!!

Johnny, I have a few things that I wanted to do different and went with the long block. I'm very happy with the way it looks and suspect it to perform just as well.

    CVO Bill,
Congrats on your new project. I'm down the road from you in Canton. I purchased the same BP306 long block package as you for my MK4 build. I finished it off with an Edelbrock Performer intake manifold and 600 CFM carb, MSD Probillet ignition, Coolermaster water pump, and CVF racing 8rib accessory drive kit. The engine has been great in my Cobra but I don't have much milage on it yet as I'm waiting for April when I take it to Jeff Kleiner for paint. The dyno sheet with my engine showed 397HP and it feels like it has all the power that I want in my car. The only thing I didn't like about the Blueprint build was the timing cover was set up for a stock Ford magnetic non-adjustable timing trigger. I had to install a timing indicator in the position where I could see it with my water pump and then set it to TDC using a piston stop. Here are some pictures of mine installed in the rolling chassis.

    Steve's Stupid Question:

Do you have any idea as to how much quieter The Gas-N-Pipes are compared the stock Factory Five Stainless Pipes?
By the way, they do look extremely nice from the picture that you posted.

    Steve,

I personally don't know the sound difference, but what I've read its definitely better. I'm picking my kit up Saturday and plan to go-cart the car with the stock side pipes and swap to the Gas-N pipes afterwards.

I missed Dad of Three's post, I stand corrected. For some reason I thought they were quiter. Oh well....glad they are really pretty.

Most of this has been mentioned a lot, but regarding comparisons between the stock FFR pipes and the Gas-N pipes, my experience after using both. And this is outside of the obvious physical difference. The Gas-N pipes are beautiful. From a pure decibel standpoint, there isn't a lot of difference. The linked video from several years ago demonstrates that. But, 1) The Gas-N's have a much mellower tone. You can hear that a little in the video. The stock pipes have a metallic ring to them that gave me a very quick headache, even when wearing ear plugs. 2) The stock pipes will only get louder with age, and while I didn't leave them on long enough to find out, it apparently happens pretty quickly. Like even within a few thousand miles. The Gas-N's seem to hold up much better. I haven't heard of anyone blowing them out. 3) The tips on the Gas-N pipes are angled down. While that might not seem like a big deal, and won't show up in any external sound tests, it makes a big difference when you're sitting just a couple fit away from the tip. 4) The stock pipes have a reputation for internal breakage (start rattling) and also the tab for the hangars breaking off. You won't find any reports for that with the Gas-N's. Yea, I like 'em...

    Let the building commence!

This is your 3rd so it should be easy-peasy. You didn't publish the specs as far as I can see; what are the details of the build? And the long block? Interesting that you didn't go coyote, like your '33. Any special reason why?

EDIT I didn't read your sig. oops!

    David,
I love the Coyote in my Hot Rod and I might put a Gen 3 Coyote in the next one, but I also love the sound of a push rod V8. I'm hoping to have this one done in time to be at London in June.
Inventory is done and I only have two parts missing on the shipping list and only a few things that are back ordered. I have a few more weeks of work to do on a '65 Mustang I'm working on for a friend and then I should be all set to get rolling.

Its been a while but I have the two other projects out of the way. Under hood restoration / refresh on a 1965 Mustang and some chassis updates, new wheelie bars and a few other updates on a really cool 1970 Maverick with a 489" FE engine the runs in the 9.70's. Hopefully I can focus on the MK4 for a while. I have the brake and fuel lines done, fuel tank, fuse block mounted, wiring ran to the front and rear of the car, front and rear suspension done, rebuilt the rear differential and got the engine and transmission installed. Hopefully go-cart in the next two weeks and can move on to fitting the body and start the body work.

Finally got back to the Roadster again after a few more race car projects. The wiring is almost done and it was ready to do the first start. I primed the oil pump with a drill a few days before the first start. Before I but fuel in the tank I cranked the engine a few times for 10-15 seconds to get oil pressure again. I then filled the float bowls of the carb with gas so I didn't have to rely on the fuel pump filling the carb. Pump the throttle and hit the key and the BluePrint engine fired up and ran great. I didn't have my "I'm an old guy and need cheater glasses to see on" so I had to shut it off and mark the balancer better so I could see the timing mark. But all in all I'm very happy with the BluePrint engine and looking forward to the first go-cart ride. I hope this video works
