    Lower steering shaft too long?

I am trying to setup the steering shaft. When I put the bearing retainers and bearing outside the footbox ( like the instructions say) I can't start the coupling onto the steering rack without removing the bolts that retain the bearing and moving upper section of the lower steering shaft towards the center of the chassis which would be outside of the footbox if it was in place. It is like the lower section of the steering shaft is too long. I tried to move the bearing inside the footbox but it interferes with the mount for the throttle pedal(coyote). I am assuming that I will need to reposition the steering shaft on the steering rack splines when it's time to setup the steering but there won't be a way to do that with the drivers pedal box closed up and the lower bracket the wilwood pedal box in place. Has anyone else had this problem? Maybe there is a solution I've overlooked.
    Thanks
    Jeff

This is a common issue and most just mount the bearing inside the foot box to solve it.

While moving it to the inside, get 2 5/16 carriage bolts to mount he bearing. A lot easer to tighten and removed if you ever have to.

I shortened mine because after putting it inside the foot box I found that the coyote electronic throttle didn’t fit very well.

I fought with mine for quite a while until I found the exact rotation and exact angle of the upper arm that allowed it to be installed. Of course the pedal box needs to be removed or at least unbolted to allow the upper arm to angle up and in toward the engine bay.

Mount the adapter onto the rack shaft separate from the entire lower shaft then attach it to the adapter making sure it (the set screw) is in the indent of the adapter. Fits perfect and no moving the bearing to the inside of the foot-box.

Cool idea. I'm about to re-install my steering shaft and will try to see if I can make it work this way. My bearing will stay on the outside of the foot box.

Frank is correct---however don't get too carried away making the steering shaft installation permanent just yet Grumpy. You may not be aware of this but the shaft has to come out to install the Coyote then go back in after the engine is installed.

    Thanks for all the great
info. I ended up putting the bearing on the inside of the pedal box and elongating the holes in the throttle mounting plate so it would miss the steering shaft
