    Battery Relocation

    Anyone else move the battery to this location?

    Decided to move the batteries to the rear for better weight distribution. Started with cardboard proof of concept. Still need to add second end cap but pictures are easier without it. Based on desired placement it would interfere with removal of differential in the future so clearance holes were added to allow the bolts to be removed if needed. Will likely cover the holes from the inside with small removable cover plates. Will need to incorporate lifting straps to allow pulling batteries out but they are easy to insert. Made the box about 1/2 inch wider than the batteries to allow them to be tilted slightly as they are dropped into place. Will insert some type of spacers to snug the batteries and some form of tie downs. 0.063 5052 material.

    Wow, Mark, that is a lot of work but much more accessible. I could not bring myself to cut the cross braces for the drop trunk. I wonder what the numbers are on who cuts and who leaves. I figured I would mostly use the drop trunk for tools needed to fix what comes loose when I'm on the road

    Currently working on a similar relocation using 2x 6v batteries.

    I went as wide as possible at the opening and narrowed at the base to facilitate getting the batteries in/out.

    Working on the wiring at the moment ..

    Aluminum (.09") w/ powder coat. I had a welder friend make it up based on a wooden mock-up. I cleaned up the welds prior to PC.

    Your design looks great, maybe Breeze will add one to their offerings. What did you do about the differential mounting bolts? Are they blocked?

    I saw several hot rods at the Grand National Roadster Show with (2) small batteries like this. Would not have thought of it myself. Gotta get creative finding space in these little cars. Nice work.

    Bill from ffmetals was working on a rear battery box with 2 6 volt red top batteries, don't know if he is still perfecting it or not.

    I ntial mounting bolts? Are they blocked?
    If you look at my second photo you can see I drilled a couple 1.5” holes that line up with the differential bolts. I put some rubber plugs in them. The theory is I can pull the batteries out and get to those bolts if I ever need to (hopefully not).

    That solution is a winner. Never knew they made 6 Volt Red Top batteries. Great work.
