FFR IRS -13" Mustang Brake Kit - Hawk Pad?

    Hello,

I purchased the FFR IRS 13" Mustang IRS rear brake kit with my complete kit back in 12/17. I was under the impression that the caliper utilized on this rear brake caliper was from a 96-04 Ford Mustang Cobra. I ordered a new set of Hawk PH+ pads (HB183 N.585) this week, and it appears they are too small for this caliper.

Would this 13" brake kit utilize a caliper from the 2015-2018 Mustang? It appears that the Hawk HP+ for this caliper is a HB774N.650.

Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

    Troy

I had to replace a torn piston boot on mine. Talked to FFR and was told the calipers were from a 98 T-Bird. I ordered part and the ones I received were correct. Hope that helps.

I was going to give you a link to Hawks catalog where they had all pads listed w/ measurements and diagrams. But I can't find it now. I contacted Hawk asking where they are so I hope to get a replay.

I dug out the StopTech pads that came with the kit and they were: Front (309.08040) and Rear (309.05450). Entered the 98 Thunderbird into StopTech's website and it didn’t provide any results. I entered 88 Thunderbird and the search came back with the Rear (309.05450) pad that FFR sent. Interesting...

Went into Hawks website and entered the 88 Thunderbird into the search and it came back with three pads for this caliper. The pad dimensions appear to be very close between the (2) websites.
-HB580E.627 (Blue 9012), HB580F.627 (HPS), and HB580G.627 (DTC-60). It doesn't appear they have the HP+ pad for this caliper.

I purchased the HP+ pad for the front, however it may not be the best choice with the selection of rear pads above. After reading several older threads, it appears that the best setup is to utilize an aggressive pad in the rear and less aggressive in the front. Does anyone have any experience with these three HAWK pad compounds on the MKIV?

I too was confused by FFR's rear brake components until I contacted FFR. Rear brakes are 88 T-bird AND on the 93 cobra. Not sure if this adds any more options for pads on the various websites...

HPS is the kind of standard Hawk street pad. Good but HPS 5.0 is a little better while HP+, and Street/Race have significantly more grip and they dust more. No experience w/ the other two. Dang Hawk used to have graphs w/ grip vs temp and now they have these maybe a little less helpful

While comparing be sure to look at the 'Optimal temp range'. If it doesn't start at 100, the pad would be marginal for street use. The dtc-60 starts at 400 deg so not a good street pad at all. No info on blue9012
