It looks pretty rough to me from underneath; pretty rusty. Most are $7-$10k higher than what you're looking to spend.

Generally you get what you pay for with FFR cars. All should be inspected prior to purchase with a build book or parts list as well. Your price point narrows the field (in my opinion) as a full kit, paint job, crate motor, new transmission and diff cost more than that. Add in rims, tires and sorting out and you are at $40k. The attached picture shows why. Yes that is Bogi from All Girls Garage.

It's an old Mk2. Back then if you didn't order powder coating FFR just gave the unprepped bare steel chassis a quick shot of black paint which was only intended to keep corrosion in check until the customer applied a permanent finish. This is what you'd wind up with after a few years if nothing further was done to the chassis.

I looked at this car as they are only a couple miles away. It is a very basic build done with what looks to be all donor parts and personally I have seen better ones listed for the same price. There is one in Kingman Arizona with Black Cherrybpaint and close to $33. You would have to fly into Vegas and drive down.

You probably should factor in travel costs, shipping/transport cost, sales tax into your total budget estimate.

You may end up traveling a bit. These cars are not that common and to have a not common car come up for sale that is what you want in your price range and be near you is kind like a lottery win. Can it happen yes, but it’s not probable. The good thing is car shipping isn’t crazy expensive and flights are not that expensive.

My best experience is with my wife driving my new car home over 3 days. It's a great way to force you to get acquainted with a new car. 30 degrees, rain, hail, and fog. It's only a flight and good times away...

Every so called "$30K" car that has come through the shop here has required a minimum of 10 grand to become a "sorted Roadster". Not saying you can't find one and wish you good luck. It just hasn't been our experience.
