Another Option for drive shaft hoop

I found this 5" steel pipe at my metal supply store. It cost $4.oo. When I saw it I was reminded of Sbhunter's hoop. I cut a 2" segment for the hoop and welded up some 3/4" square pipe for a mounting bracket.

I welded a bracket of angle iron to the 4" chassis cross beam.

I spent some time guesstimating the angle it needed to be taking into consideration from my previous engine installs that the tranny lists to the starboard in the tunnel.

I powder coated it for easy visibility. Actually, I just really like this hight gloss white from the powder coat store.

I did my final engine install the other day and here is how it looks. I am very happy with it, have wide clearance with driveshaft rotation.

    Two questions.
You have tested it, to make sure there is no contact, when the rear suspension is at full droop, and at full compression?

Why didn't you grind the cut end smooth, instead of leaving it all ragged like that?

Good point, I haven't test it under full load yet, however, after carefully inspecting it I think it will be fine. I'll try to remember to post an update when I do that. As far as grinding down the cut edge, grinding covers everything in the shop with a fine layer of dust including my boat, it was a cold day and I didn't want to grind outside, and I guess I'm not that much of a perfectionist.
