Well that was a painless process. 15 minutes total time. 2 DMV inspectors showed up, looked at the car and asked for my Certificate of Origin, Bills of Sales with serial numbers, and to see the serial number Factory Five etched in the chassis. They ran the numbers, took pictures of my car, and issued my paperwork. Now to get insurance and go pick up my tags.

As a fellow North Carolinian, glad it went well.

Did you have them come to you house?

    Scott,

They did come to my house. I called them yesterday just to inquire about the process and how far in advance I needed to make an appointment. He informed me he could come today at 1100. I told him I wasn't quite finished with the car. He said that didn't matter at all. It was mostly just a paperwork audit. They accepted the 12 digit VIN assigned from Factory Five. Had me attach the FF supplied data tag while they were here. Said it was no need to generate a new 17 digit VIN. They registered it as a 1965 Ford replica. Very pleasant experience.

If you have all your paperwork & don't require an indemnity policy you can get your plates & registration before the title comes in.

Ask for historic or antique plates registration. A few bucks more but have property tax & state inspection advantages.

That's what the inspector told me yesterday. He said I could go straight to the DMV and get my tags. Just not quite finished with the car yet. Quickly working through my final assembly punch list. Figured I would go get the tags this coming week.

Fantastic! Congratulations on getting that done, and so pleased that it was so painless!

Need to get those plates and post a picture. Also, I look forward to seeing her final pictures all wrapped up!

Getting pretty darned real now! Congrats again.

Just keep plugging away. You'll get there. It is so worth it. Got my registration today. Been giving rides for the last couple of hours. One things for sure, you can't be bashful and drive one. People yelling at me, thumbs up, and taking pictures. It's everything I thought it would be..

Congrats. I am glad to see that the NC process is easy. Your car looks beautiful.
I went all of two blocks when someone snapped the fist picture. Stopped at the gas station and had several people around the car. And it was just in gel coat then.
It won't be long until you get your first "Is it real?".....LOL

What are the benefits of the historic or antique plate registration? I’m wondering about the tax and inspection advantages you’re speaking of.

Yearly property tax is based on a $500 valuation, there is no annual inspection, (the DVM you had is the last one) no emissions requirements & freedom to use 1965 plates as long as you carry your AA plate in the car. All the guys in our group are running custom 1965 plates or similar.

I chose 1965 because it yellow on black 1966 is black on yellow. I understand NC flipped colors each year back then. My first car plate in Jersey was orange on black, like similar combinations like the CA plates.

My insurance is around $300, will have to look, for agreed value $50,000 unlimited driving. Not tied specifically to the title/registration process but the policies are Cobra replica specific, local agent in Triangle Area.

    EDIT $360 for insurance.
