    Lizard Skin planning and process

The engineer in me wants to plan stuff out in advance. So, here痴 what i知 thinking for coating the panels. I知 building my 33 with the top and windows so I know I値l have some heat to think about.

    - Drill all the panels first
    - Scuff the panels
    - Tape off (blue painters tape) where the panels will contact the frame.
    - Tape off any areas where panels will overlap
    - spray both sides of the panels (I expect a couple of coats) if I hang them
    - Remove the tape before the lizard skin hardens. How can I do this if I知 going to apply both sound and heat coatings?
    - Maybe use the Top Coat on the underside

    Any comments or thoughts?

The alternative is to just remove all of the lettering and use as is with the insulation kit and carpet! Certainly a lot easier but I知 not sure if sufficient even here in Michigan.

I've done four builds with Lizard Skin. Did this write-up on the other forum after #2. https://www.ffcars.com/forums/17-fac...xperience.html. Not exactly the sequence you're describing, but FWIW. I've found the recommended thickness of the heat and sound products on the inside only, plus carpet, to be quite adequate. I know others do it, but I'm not a big fan of having the Lizard Skin products exposed, e.g. on the underside. It's a water based product, and while it dries relatively hard, it's not as durable as a solvent or catalyzed undercoat. I've used their Top Coat product. Better than leaving it bare I guess. But it's basically only a thin undercoat spray like many other similar products. My recommendation would be to install all the panels first, then spray the Lizard Skin. It seals everything up and adds strength, and IMO is one of the big advantages of Lizard Skin over the stick-on products. On my current Gen 3 Coupe build, there were a number of panels I had no choice but to spray loose and add once the body was on. I can say from experience it's a lot more work and even if carefully masked, fitting things back together after application requires some additional effort.

Good luck whatever you do. The Gen 2 Hot Rod looks very interesting.

I remember reading your note before, just forgot where it was. This sounds more like what I expected. Should be a lot easier. I might paint the back side of the aluminum (powder coat?). But coating and sealing the interior sounds like like the way to go.
Now I need to find your note on the painting process! I'll go search the other forum.

All of my builds have been powder coated panels. I haven't posted anything about painting panels.
