    Question E-brake reccomendations

    Hi all,
I remember some threads about re-routing the e-brake cables OVER the 4" tube with pulleys. I hope someone can point me to the threads or post a solution.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jeff

Several variations, but this is my version: https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/show...l=1#post225428 and later update in https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/show...l=1#post225977. Starting its third driving season and 4,000+ miles. Still working fine.

I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but using 94-up Mustang handle & cables means you don’t route the cables under the 4” tube. No extra hardware required.

I know it seems freaky with the stock routing. However, it works just fine and lasts a long time. I have 21,000 miles and always use my parking brake. No issues whatsoever. The only thing I did extra was put some sleeving on to reduce the amount of exposed cable.

We were discussing this recently on this thread.

    https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/show...e-brake+cables

I don't recall anyone needing pulleys, to route the cables through?

I'm not sure why FFR decided to re-invent the wheel, with their odd e-brake handle, and long cables? Part of their steering away from donor builds I suppose.
As Sean mentions, the earlier method of using SN94 Mustang cables and a Donor e-brake handle worked great.

I routed them over the frame. I had to extend the lower brake arm to get the right geometry and it works great.

Lots of ways to skin this thing. Agreed with the right donor style handle and proper length cables, it's possible to route the cables through the front and rear guides and not go under the chassis tubes. Did that on my original Mk3 build. Works fine. But these discussions get a little confusing because the installations are different depending on which is used. What works for one may not work with the other.

I'm not sure either why Factory Five went to their in-house design e-brake handle. I was originally a little skeptical. But have found with #8674 it works fine and I use it all the time. The angles and pivot location using that handle just about requires the cables go under the frame. The pulley setup is one way to avoid that. Not saying there aren't other solutions. But the OP asked about that so posted pics. A number of other builds have used that mod as well and also appear to be working OK. The cables under the frame have been talked about a lot. Many use it and say it's fine as reported here. Others don't care for it. Others have cited technical inspections where it wasn't acceptable. Although I don't know if that's very common.
