Do I need a low oil level sensor on my oil pan?

I can't say I've ever been saved by a low oil level sensor, and I'm not even sure how many cars that I have owned even had one.
I'm back looking at the tiny gap between my headers and my starter and worried about heat soak and getting stranded. I could clock the starter away from the header IF I delete the oil level sensor (yellowish plug in the picture) and grind the protective boss off the pan. I'm running the C5 computer system with the DIC but I think I can bypass the warning message by jumping the wire.
One other option is to purchase a header flange/spacer but that would only buy me the thickness of the flange (usually 3/8").

No real reason to keep it. I've never used one in any of the cars I've built.

    I'm thinking the same thing.
Does anyone see any issues with grinding off the boss under the sensor? To me it looks like it's only there to protect the sensor, probably from any road debris that might get kicked up.

I thought there was a separate oil temp sender?? I'm not to that point in the wiring.
I thought the C5/ls1 had a separate temp sender, did that change for the LS3?

Yup, the oil temp and level sensor are combined and located on the side of the oil pan.

I'm going with the Lingenfelter Oil Cooler Adapter kit and will put my oil temp and pressor sensor off that block.

Thanks guys. So Sean why did you end up moving it? Was it interfering with your starter? Did you just plug the OEM location? I also have an adapter block (I think Improved Racing), maybe I can relocate the sender as well. But probably don't want a level reading from there?

I ended up moving it because the E-Brake bracket that Shane provides covers it up. You could probably still fit the plug in there, but may interfere with the linkage from the kit.

Now that I read Shane’s description of the bracket, he states it will not work with a Mendeola transaxle. So I may be changing this up later. Supposedly my Mendy will ship in about 2 weeks.

I don't and never had one.

I check levels on a regular basis, and before and spirited event.

If you're changing your oil every 3 - 6 months, then you're ahead of the game.

Oil pressure is more than fine for me.

I did not use the one on the block either, mine has adaptor above the filter where my sensor is connected
